Boys' Names
Thought I'd see what wierd and wonderful suggestions the SN mob have for boys' names.
Am just over 7 months pregnant and don't know if Bump is a boy or a girl, so we've had to chose 1 name for each. We've got the girl's name sorted (we think) but are stumped for decent, not too common, not stupid, not going to get teased boys' names. Can't start with the initial B as other half doesn't want the alliteration as surname starts with a B. So - what suggestions do you have? :D A gratuitous photo of the little thing, courtesy of the 4D scan we had last week. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e_Elf/1_5a.jpg |
I like Jude.

Quato
:D |
:D I want a 4d scan :D
We have chosen Jeremy for a boy (it will probably change again sometime soon though!) :) |
Try not to choose w@nk fashion names like 'Jude' or your kid will have the same monicker as the chav-children at school.
Chav mother "I fink oil call my kid Jude after that fit bit from the movies" What about something from the bible? Just not any saints names. Or what about a class name from the past like Albert or Frederick? |
Albert is cool :D
|
Reason I like Albert is there are so many variations
Al, Alberto, Bertie, Bert. |
One of the main things you HAVE to do if you have any compassion, especially if it's a lad, is to ensure that it's not a name that a) can easily have the p*ss taken out of it, and b) isn't in any way feminine or gay.
If you don't do those two things, you are virtually ensuring that your son will grow up either a thug or a mouse. I see you have already taken on board the first name/last name bit, also watch for middle initials spelling stuff, ( a friend's sister has the initials L.E.Z., and has had "Lezzie" shouted at her in school). Be careful of initial/last name link-ups too. Perhaps not SO important for girls, but kids at school can be SO cruel, girls included! Oh, and for chav reasons, avoid stuff like Madison, Blake etc. English people don't generally have two surnames instead of a first name/surname. Leave that to the Yanks:( Alcazar |
I'd call him Yoda from that photo :)

=nods= That's one of the concerns, yes. We don't want anything that's too common (9 of them in the same class with the same name, for example) so things like Harry (Potter) and any pop-star names are definitely out.
We're also trying to avoid the initials-making-a-word as well. Trouble is, we both have a fair few cousins, so a lot of what we consider to be good, solid names are taken already. We did consider Sid, after Sid Vicious after seeing this shot though..... :D :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...e_Elf/1_6a.jpg DrWho - trouble with Albert (Bert, Bertie) is the B again. |

Note to self must learn to read before typing.
How about something biblical then (not Joshua). http://www.ccel.org/bible_names/title.html my favourite- Abaddon, the destroyer Obviously you wouldn't want to call the little blighter that but there are some decent names on the site. |
Can't beat James imo - same reasons as above - can be James/Jim/Jimmy/Jamie - bit common though..
or how about Tyrone ? ;) |
As we cradled our newborn (3rd kid) the realisation dawned that he had no name, we hadn't decided, and we didn't want to leave the hospital without one. We literally started at 'A' and went through the names we knew trying to decide...luckily at 'C' I mentioned Christian, versatile (Chris is a good cop out short name) and not too common. However now there are 3 Mr C. Blahblahs in our house, Myself , Calvin and Christian...that should keep the tax man guessing LOL
BTW that scan technology is amazing! Cman |
James is out because it's the name of one of our cats. :D Well, "Jamie" anyway. Jack, Jacob and Joshua are all taken by cousins. As are Zak, Daniel, Jason, Matthew, Trevor, Gary etc....
Tyrone....well, I'd ideally NOT like to see it being beaten up regularly. "Tyrone" sounds like a thug, to me. :D |
Mark, Luke, David, Eddie, Robert, (Sorry, forgot "Bob"), Jason, John, Andrew, Thomas, Jack, Jeff, ................?

Alcazar Mark - brother's name Luke - other half doesn't like David - Uncle's name, other half's old boss's name Eddie.....I'll put that to him Robert - bad story associated with that name Jason - cousin John - too common Andrew - other half's brother's name Thomas - is in the "OK" pile Jack - cousin's name Jeff.... I'll put that to him too. :) |
Sunday at Murrayfield was very, very funny day. :D
You must name him: Chaitanya Chandrabhushan Gaurikant Narendranath Umachandra Vedprakash All of these names are very very good for my family. |
Stephen ?
|
That's the other half's name. :)
Synthesiser Patel...all good names....and probably unusual (have never heard of any of them! :D )....but might sound odd with the surname. :) |
We liked Jack (family name) but were put off by every offspring of the RIchard & Judy generation having the same name.
Decided on Will (not William) which seems to suit him quite well ;) (& it goes nicely with our surname begining with B........) D (Second thoughts, ignore the above as I don't want it to be popularised :D) |

How about Miles, always liked that but had 2 girls, so not needed now....Hope all goes well.

Do what my parents did, give him a name you like, and give him a safe second name just incase they feel like using that instead. My parents always said if I wanted to change that was OK.
I'm a Jethro, but got James as a middle name to fall back on. Besides that ever tedious Jethro Tull so called Joke, I like my name so haven't been tempted to change it, but I always had the option to. |
