Oil leak on drivers side rocker cover
I have an oil leak on the drivers side rocker cover - i can see where it has dripped down onto the manifold and evaporated, hence the fine white oil smelling smoke i get once every so often then stops after about 10 mins.
I just wanted to know how urgent this was to fix and what costs are involved? Anyone had it done??? Thanks, Mark. |
This is the most common sorce of oil leaks on scoobs (the drivers side most common). The cheapest way to fix would be to clean up the edge and run a line of instant gasket around it (no need to dismantle).

I had a new rocker cover gasket fitted and the manifold cleaned up. Think it came to £120 including labour charges + VAT.

I just tightened the lower rocker cover bolts a little. Still get the occasional drip abd it'll need doing properly at some stage but it's been mostly ok for 12 months or so. :)

has happened to me 4 times - apparently very common. it came back and then went away!!! in terms of urgency, i was previously advised that it could potentially cause a fire - hope that gives you an idea! of urgency!!!

thanks for the replies. i think i'll get it done on my next oil change in a month or two. try and incorporate the labour costs into the service maybe...
ref fire - luckily, i installed a small powder extinguisher in the footwell the other week. hopefully, i wont have to use it!!!!! |
