Re-Mapping question

Hi all
If I have my an Imported Scoob ECU re-mapped for UK fuel will I need to use Octane boost still
From what most of you have said Im thinking you will as we run at 97 (Optimax) and the cars are use to a nice high grade 100
Im reading lots of post here am I not :D
Also what sort of money would it cost to have your ECU re-mapped and is there a section on the site to let you know who are good at this sort of thing and those you should avoid like the fat Chave bird on a saturday night out..! :D

RE-MAPPING

If you get your scoob re mapped for UK fuel then you will only need octane boost when you do a rolling road day or you know your going for a heavy/fast, drive at the weekend;)
Optimax is 98 RON as far as I am aware, and thats what I had my car re mapped on.
You are quite right as far as Japanese fuel goes it is 100 RON therefore, for now, to avoid blowing you engine keep using octane boost.
I had a gems ECU, but there are many options out there, ranging from £750 to £2500.
Hope this helps
Kev,

Thanks for the advice kev not bought 1 yet Im still looking about and finding out what I need to do to keep it running sweet as when I get it
Im thinking its got to be worth having your car re-mapped
If Im wrong just say if only you get caught short and cant find an optimax station and you need to stick in some lesser quality fuel
what is the effect it has on you car performance though the Imports have more punch than the UK cars
So Im thinking re-map it and its going to show in the performance

re mapping

I would say with hindsight if you buy a Jap scoob, the first mod to do would be a re map to english fuel. The amount of engine rebuilds this would have saved I can only guess:( (including mine)
I have a gems ECU which not only has the anti-lag feature :) but I have two fuel switches-one for the optimax, and another, in case as you mentioned, I get caught short and have to put in some other petrol I can flick the switch and the gems takes care of the engine until I fill up again with optimax.
This cost the first time around £1300 (from memory) in 2003.
You can spend more on a MOTEC or less on a link or Apexi I believe.
Whatever you choose when you do any other mods (and you will) you can have a re map costing £200 a time there or there abouts,
And yes generally the early Jap scoobs are around 260 to 280 bhp,
Then UK P1 came along at 280bhp.
Hope this helps?
Kev.
