engine warning light help!!!!
 

hi, a bit of help needed, im thnking of buying a impreza wrx and the engine warning light is flashng on the insrtument panel,

the engines seems in very good condition, reving ok and turbo kicks in on time,

i have been told i can check for fault codes myself if i connect some wires near the steering column, does anyone know which ones? and also how to do so and what to look out for?

it has is a turbo timer which is the only aftermarket part on the car

and prevoius threads where this has been discussed will be most apprecated

ok, purchased the subaru today :) , and have noticed the petrol gauge does not work (stuck on quarter) on the instrument panel as it ran out of petrol, luckily i was near my house :p

also the engine check light has stopped flashing and is now constantly on, this is maybe because i unplugged and plugged some electric sockets in the engine bay

is there anywhere i can take it in the manchester area where they can check the car as i have tried to look for the ecu reset wires under the steering column and cant see them?

any help or advise will be much appreciated

right then,

done the ecu check, but noticed the green connector was already disconnected, if i connect the green plug there is a loud ticking noise near the selonoid when i turn the ignition on but when the car is started the noise seems to go,

also when the green plug is disconnected cant work out the code, i think there are 2 or 3 different codes,

if i disconnect both black and green plugs then the engine light seems to work correct (turn the ignition light comes on, start the car light goes off)

can i leave it like this?? will it affect the car in any way?

The Green and Black Plugs should be DISCONNECTED during normal use. they should only be connected to reset the ecu or to get fault codes from the ecu.

The noise you hear with them connected is the system doing a full check.Its normal.

so, both plugs were supposed to be disconnected?

when i checked the black plug ws already connected

what about the flashes when only the black connector is connected?
which i still cant seem to figure out

when disconnected both plugs the car lights work correctly so does this mean there is nothing wrong?

as above they are supposed to be DISCONNECTED in normal use..................
if you connect the Black connectors you will go into the 'check' mode...........if the CEL light just flashes at a constant rythm then everything is fine, if not it will pulse with long and short flashes (long is tens, short is units) e.g. 2 long and 3 short flashes is 23!!
can store up to 3 codes and then will start again from the beginning...............
