Question is what esle might be worth condsidering in that sort of bracket either new - newish with warranty etc..........dare i say it will a 4-6 month old TT 225 be worth more after 3 years - what do peeps think the residuals will be like on the Golf

Freak 08 March 2005 01:29 PM

25k on a golf? you can pick up an e46 M3 for that much now.........(used obviously!)

lightning101 08 March 2005 01:29 PM

They are only 21995 in Camerons VW in Perth

The R32 is not much different.

Old_Fart 08 March 2005 01:35 PM

TT *may* be worth more in 3 years, then again they may have released facelift and killed residulas.
New golf GTI is by all accounts the bee's knee's as a drivers car...should hold it's money incredibly well unless they oversupply enormously..
Mini is also very popular, but GTi is definitely the current car to own at that price..along with RX8 and 350Z. Scooby is good fun, but will cost most to run including depreciation and servicing

I know base price is 21995 but add on leather, 18's inch wheels, sat nav, and few other bits - not all i might add and it nearly £25,000K !!

Petem95 08 March 2005 01:41 PM

TT looks so distinctive its sure to hold its value well in the coming years, even tho a new TT is due in a year or two.

A3's hold their value very well too, and if you got a new shape 3-series (due to be released 12th March) then values for those will remain firm for 3 years (at which point all the ex-fleet ones will hit the market and weaken values).

Wouldnt touch a brand new WRX unless you want to lose a fortune.

Mini values hold up very well too if you like the car, but there is a new model due next year from memory (surprisingly).

I have a GTi On order with DSG and got a tidy diescount!

Cupramax 08 March 2005 02:15 PM

For comparable money I've just chopped my Leon Cupra R in for an A3 Sportback 2.0TFSi Quattro. Bit of a mouthfull but a cracking good car with fantastic build quality. Has the same engine as the GTi and goes equally as well plus the added bonus of 4wd. Got £1750 discount off retail so there's deals to be had.

CSW convertible, sell it next summer for near what you paid for it!

scoobynutta555 08 March 2005 03:53 PM

Depends on what you want from a car. IMHO if I was to spend around that money I'd get 2 second hand cars, one a diesel for mile munching etc and the other weekend type of thing. Latest copy of evo out has proper sports cars for £20,000 and its a good read, there are quite a few to choose from second hand, and most are depreciation beaters.

Id never buy new again unless the car was going to be very very good depreciaition wise

Danny B 08 March 2005 04:05 PM

New cars tend to lose 50% of the purchase price within 3yrs, so if you can afford to buy it for £25k and sell it in three years time for £12,500 then go for it.
Personally I'd wait until they start coming on to the second hand market for £18k ish in a years time.

dhorwich 08 March 2005 04:18 PM

Nissan 350Z

maxda RX8

punkie 08 March 2005 05:42 PM

all know that there Scooby beaters !!!:)

DIESEL POWER BABY !!!!

punkie 08 March 2005 05:43 PM

M5,take a look at this months Evo

Dazzler 09 March 2005 08:38 AM

Sorry, is it just me that that thinks forking out £25k for a Golf is a bit crazy ???

I know they're meant to be fantastic to drive etc etc. but I couldn't justify the high price and we seek out other cars that would seem more worthy of that price bracket.

I just wish I had a spare £25k to make such a decision you lucky s0ds! :D

Scooby-Doo 11 March 2005 01:08 AM

Thinking about getting a new weekend car recently and I priced up a mini convertable works and it came to £25.5k :(

Soft top fun but when you can pickup an Evo 260 for £20k it looks a bit daft but the mini should have strong residuals after 3 years. Knowing me I will end up with an Evo IX of some description :)
