Scooby most stolen car...

Just been phoning round for some insurance and one of the brokers has just told me the Scooby is the most stolen car in the UK, followed by the X5.....

Anyone else agree/disagree with this or know where there are some official figures on it? Also apparently the south west is the lowest area of car crime.....

jjones 07 March 2005 04:47 PM

Last i heard mk 2 astras were the most stolen car. toe rags (joy riders) make up the percentage of car thefts and they only steal what a metal ruler and a screwdriver will get them.

GrollySTI 07 March 2005 04:59 PM

This would suprise me if it was the case.

nyscooby 07 March 2005 05:57 PM

Insurance companies will tell you anything to soften the blow of that 3 grand quote they just worked out on thier fancy computers.

I heard Norwich Union paid out their 1st million pound settlement last year, scooby crashed into a rich fellas Jag and he had loads of time 'orff werk'

Cost them 1 million............ whatever, i signed with Tesco.

powerman1 07 March 2005 07:20 PM

Yes I agree, tell the customer what he needs to hear to justify the rip off quote,I'll bet theres more astra/mondeos stolen than there is scoobys on the road..tell him to get stuffed and get his facts right..probably is a pi55ed off because he cant afford one powerman

Poor Guy 07 March 2005 07:23 PM

lol, yeah right. Car theif. Hmmmmmmm, looky hear. An astra with no alarm or cntrl locking, ooooohhhhhhh a subaru, with double central locking, immobiliser, alarm and tracker. Which SHALL i nick?!

jc scoob 07 March 2005 07:29 PM

i heard it was the astra!

wide 07 March 2005 07:36 PM

Well I can say that as I often get the task of putting out burnt motors on a fairly regular basis old fords are still far more common than anything else

Jza 07 March 2005 07:57 PM

theres NO WAY the scooby is the most stolen - the old fords and vauxhaul's are favourites - you could break into an old escort with a 20p piece ;)

chris's scooby 07 March 2005 08:01 PM

I always thought it was the old model Astra as well, what with it being possible to open the doors inside 3 seconds with a handsaw...

Thre X5 was Trackers most stolen vehicle last December followed by the Scoob...Obviously those figures only relate to
those fitted with Tracker.
Cavaliers/Astras/Novas/Metros etc. are by far the most stolen for obvious reasons.
Figures can say what you want them to ...in 1996 Cambridgeshire Police areas most stolen vehicle was the Volvo T5....But that figure was based on the total T5 population of the area.

Ray_li 07 March 2005 10:03 PM

I was told Metros was the most stolen when i had one

shaunywrx 07 March 2005 10:25 PM

If i had a metro, i'd be glad if someone stole it!!:norty:

I heard the early cossies were earlier than that. Kick the bumper in the right place and the inertia switch thinks you've crashed and unlocks all the doors

CJAF7R 08 March 2005 08:15 AM

The bloke told me that 70-80% of their claims are imprezas, either stolen or crashed!

555wrx 08 March 2005 10:37 AM

I wouldve said old escorts, astras, fiestas and maestros where the most knicked.
Atleast thats what we always used to recover when I was working in a garage a few years back.
Joyriders go for the easy stuff whereas Ringers etc go for the expensive stuff.
IMO the most stolen thing is what we pay the insurance company in the first place, as they are just legalised crooks with the amount that they charge.

MidLifeCrisisII 08 March 2005 10:42 AM

I can't believe that......who'd wanna pinch an X5 and look like a tw@?:cuckoo:

Thats because people with old fords/ vuxhalls either drive them without insurance (i've taken a fair few cars for this) or they arn't worth claiming for

Gutmann pug 08 March 2005 11:09 AM

Stay on here more than a day or two and you will start to hear the stories of people being broken into to have their pride and joy taken. Lets just say if I lived up north I wouldnt own one for sure .........

Those of us Up North say the same about living Down South.... ;):D

alwong 08 March 2005 11:14 AM

Still is mate
I'd say the ratio between stolen crap hum drum cars and performance cars is about 10:1

Far more metros (what's left of them :lol1: ) gets nicked than scoobs. Just with scoobs it costs more to replace and fix.

(especially with the parts prices I.M charge  )

Dracoro 08 March 2005 11:34 AM

All depends on the 'stats'. Obviously the sheer number of astras/focus/etc. means they will always be the 'most' nicked. HOWEVER, as a percentage, the scoob may figure up high. What I mean by percentage is the percentage of scoobs nicked compared to the number of them on the road. e.g 1 in 10 scoobs get stolen whereas car Y is 1 in 15 or whatever etc.

Turbohot 08 March 2005 04:12 PM

I own scooby but still think its bullsh!t that scooby is the most stolen car. There are attractive soft tops,BMs,Lotuses etc as well to steal.Scooby makes too much noise to drive off.Surely it goes in favour! Tell the insurance company that!

Yes they are loud when the thieves drive them off, I should know I heard mine going the other week  just wish I'd realised at the time

scoobynutta555 08 March 2005 04:30 PM

The most stolen car has been for a while and still is the Vauxhall Belmont. God knows why :cuckoo: ;)
