Protecting inside of wheels!
I want to protect the inside of the wheels from the dreaded dust. I thought about a few coats of lacquer and have been told that I need acid etch lacquer, I can only seem to find acid etch primer. Does anyone know more about this or other ways that work.

you would be adding laquer onto a surface which allready has laquer?
regular cleaning is your best bet |
Believe it or not, I painted mine gold then lacquered them.
They dont come with any lacquer on them at all. The brake dust comes off with a simple jetwash now. |
If you get all the dust off could you not wax them, should make it a bit easier to get off in future. Saw someone cleaning their alloys with one of those small houshold steam cleaners today - might be worth a try?

After speaking to a few alloy wheel refurbishers (who slagged off Subaru for not finishing the insides) I have opted to wax the insides. They all agreed that the best way (though not cheapest) was to powdercoat.
Most did say not to use the likes of Wonder Wheels too much as it eats into the laquer no matter how quick you wash it off. Looks likes it could be Meguirs Hot Rims. anybody want 4 litres of Wonder Wheels! |
Ya can get covers, that go on before the wheels, that stops the brake dust, but I believe they make the discs warp easily, as they dont let the heat out, plus, ya wouldnt see the calipers anymore. I think Motorworld did them.
