How Easy Is It To Sell on E Bay???
 

I have some camera equipment to sell, it is not new but still looks it and is still in its boxes etc.
I want the best possible price for it so has anyone got an idiots guide on how to go about registering, whta pitfalls there are etc, etc???

Make sure you have plenty of pictures of the items you are selling, and make sure you cover all the keywords in your description that are likely to be searched on.

I alway start the bidding at the lowest price I am willing to take rather than stick in a low price with a reserve. I find reserves a waste of time.

Also note that most bidding usually takes place in the last few hours/mins/secs so make sure your auction ends at a time (and day of week) when there are likely to be plenty of peope around to bid - i.e. not 3am on a Sunday. The end day/time is determined by the time you start the auction.

I dont have a digital camera, is it really important that you have pics, or is it possible to get away with a good description of the items???

Why not sell the stuff on here??

You really need pictures. Ebay works on impulse buying - you've got to make people look at your ad and think, 'I want that'. I've got good prices (compared to other auctions) for stuff before and I'm sure it's no coincidence that I always make sure I have some decent photos. Find a mate with a digital camera and buy him a pint, it'll be worth it.

As a seller, all you need to do is use common sense. Don't sell to anyone outside the UK, there's no point - you won't make any more money and international payments are a pain in the backside. Don't accept any payment terms that sound even slightly fishy. Make sure payment is cleared into your account - at least a week for a cheque - before posting the goods. Insist on postal insurance, it'll avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings if the stuff gets lost in the post.

Do you get a mate to take those decent photos then Andy!! ;)

I would disagree with that

I have sold hundreds of records to the US, canada, australia and europe with absolutely no problems with any of them.
Dont sell to africa would be a wise move however.....

If in the uk always always send things recorded/registered mail for your own protection.

Maybe it depends what you're selling, and how many bids you think you're likely to attract?

If it's something obscure, maybe you do increase your chances of getting a couple of people bidding against each other to push up the selling price if you cast the net worldwide. However, for something that comes up quite often and has a fairly well defined value, I don't see the benefit. If the thing you're selling crops up regularly and usually goes for a similar amount, I think the gain from selling internationally is quite marginal.

I personally wouldn't want the hassle and risk associated with taking international payments and being 100% sure they couldn't be stopped or cancelled, but that's obviously your own choice.

Do a search,there's loads of good advice.

You could always ask an eBay "Trading assistant" specialising in photography to sell them for you.

OK they'd want circa 20% for the deed but you wouldn't need to do a stitch.

I dont stick it up for bid, I list it with a buy it now option only.International payment comes through paypal anyway, so i am covered (touch wood)
