Wife done for 80 in 70 on A92

As topic. I still thought it was quite rare to be done at actually 10%+3 as per old ACPO guidelines.

drb5 02 March 2005 09:59 PM

AFAIK it is purely stuck to 10%.

p1doc 02 March 2005 11:14 PM

if it is a92 south of dundee, they are being particularly harsh due to recent deaths so they have to be seen to be cracking down on "speeders"

Fee Muir 02 March 2005 11:38 PM

yup...I know two people who have been stopped there in the past couple of weeks

just need to be careful

LG John 03 March 2005 12:10 AM

On the basis that no speedo under reads they can and will do you for anything although usually they show some sympathy if its say 74 in a 70. However, they know that if she was actually doing 80 then the speedo would have been showing around 85-87 which is probably why they are being so tight. That and the fact its easy money to prosecute motorists

john banks 03 March 2005 12:53 PM

The bit where the deaths were was a bend on a non-dual carriageway part. The bit where they are doing speeders is on the dual carriageway bits with long straights and lots of nice places to park their vans. Agreed, her speedo would have been reading over 80 mph. She is actually a really conservative and sensible driver, but doesn't observe speed cameras well and react to them when she does see them. Think she got done the week after at a 30 mph one - dual carriageway again, so that will be six points. And she had a recent scrape on a lamp post. All in the first few months of a sales job where you lose your job if you get nine points. Not looking good. She'll have to not get another single speeding offense in 3 years.

p1doc 03 March 2005 03:57 PM

it is purely money grabbing as they get £60 on a road you can do 100 on the dual carriageway safely and they can say they are policing a dangerous road-the only one who loses is the driver, you could always say you were driving john?

She is a women. A gatso is a collection of complex technological parts. Genetically therefore her eyes cannot register it in the same way she can't register the DVD player, ipod or computer. You're a doctor I thought you'd know this ;):D:p

john banks 03 March 2005 08:37 PM

If I say I was driving that is perverting the course of justice, GMC wouldn't look kindly on that, and I have to drive for work as well!

ozzy 04 March 2005 12:15 AM

the pesky little beggers nearly got me with a talivan on the dual carraigeway part coming back from Elie last year.

If it was all about slowing down cars and preventing deaths, then they should be policing the actual black spots not a long, clear, straight piece of tarmac

The fines I can just about stomach (although I agree it's just become a money-generating scheme), but the automatic 3 points for such a petty offense is a bit hard to take.

I had to try really hard to accumulate points in the past but they dish them out willy-nilly thesedays and let serious offenders off far too lightly :(

GammonRoll 06 March 2005 09:18 PM

81 in a 70 here

Got done for 81 in a 70 around Stonehaven. Surprised me too.

john banks 09 March 2005 04:36 PM

Today she got a note for 41 in a 30. Even yesterday when she was driving she was over 35 in all the 30 zones. I'm no saint, but I keep having to tell her about her speed every time I am in the car with her. She's not reckless, but I think she needs more driver training. One more and she loses her job.

kart_man 09 March 2005 10:24 PM

I always assumed 80 was ok in a 70 too John!! It's such an out of date speed limit it's a joke. I bet every car on the road can stop in half the distance the old cars could when the limit was originally set !!
I've got a Origin B2 that I'm about to sell if you're interested !! :)

john banks 09 March 2005 10:28 PM

Would be interested in the B2 except that I hear that laser or radar detectors are to be banned but GPS devices can continue. All she really needs is an overspeed warning device, Cyclops will do this and store high risk/fixed sites as well.

Coulster 11 March 2005 06:58 PM

Origin b2 is a gps based system John. It does have an optional radar detector but when you get detected by this then your pretty much in the radars range so you'll be lucky to escape.

I also have origin B2 solo for sale :)

john banks 11 March 2005 09:09 PM

Why is everyone selling their B2s? ;)

Thanks for the input.
