Scoobynetters Wish-list for future top STi

How about starting a realistic wish-list of Scoobynetter Enthusiasts for future STi - if not we are likely to get stuck with the proposed Frankenstein Audi-Scoob, terrible economy, frantic power delivery with usual neck wrenching shifts, nylon seat covers, jumpy suspension etc.....

So, to start the list (we can edit later and take a vote on most popular agreements):

An official STi 2.5 four, or six bi-turbo with 360+ lb ft would be great, if at a similar price (T25 way tooo expensive for most enthusiasts) - with:

1) similar shape to present (with smaller less gorky headlights) - definitely none of the proposed Frankenstein themeing - just bigger more Works style blister arches + 2 door option and set up for 19" moderate profile tyres and lowered slightly (with some nice wheel style options - not gold...)

2) Slightly smaller scoop (intercooling can be improved by many other methods + huge gain from reduced drag and front lift) - present one virtually rips the bonnet off when a juggernaut goes past the other way with a closing speed over 100)

3) Improved anti-lift for road cars by re-styling underneath

4) Audi style phenomenol DSG paddle shift - can you imagine what 360 lb ft Scoob would feel like if there was no neck dislocating lurch during gear changes - just one big slug of torque through to a hundred - not to mention the perfect power blipping coming down the box - no doubt accompanied with a ,thwack, from the xhaust - if you havent tried Audis version, you cant comment on this - nothing else comes close - M3 for example is a joke!

5) Optional 'Lux pack' for interior to include Legacy level of leather and a real Stereo system (the centre, presently blue leather is fine, but that sort of nylon sixties weave is truly hideous and gives the breed a bad name.) - Silver outside with Legacy red leather interior with black highlighting - to include complete door panels

6) Electronically adjustable damper settings for Track, Sport & Comfort (Dealer adjustable for range of limits - eg a non track enthusiast could shift the three settings more toward WRX comfort levels)

7) Higher 6th gear for better cruising fuel economy + better designing to provide 25% better fuel economy on less than 2/3rds throttle - how many times have you driven at 50 mph for miles on vapour praying you can find another SL station - let alone optimax...

8) Alleviate the wicked front torque steer when one of front wheels looses grip during sharp cornering during high torque applications (I see a Scoobynetter lost an 05 STi this way recently..) - More of a Litcho style of set up would be beneficial - much more castor, increased wheelbase, softer ride - geared up for crisp turn in with no understeer

9) Slightly improved braking incl braided hoses and say 15% quicker steering with a 10% smaller (than 04 Sti) diameter s. wheel

10) Lower seating position option

11) More emphasis on lightening the car - I would be happier if it was 10% shorter and 3" lower in roofline, with 2 doors and more use of modern composites and alloy

OK thats enough from me - before anyone says, ok fine I a gree with a lot of this but what about the cost of the thing - well I reckon the whole lot could be taken onboard for well under £2k / car when done in volume (I suspect less than £1k would be feasible. - Greater interior luxury, with a more rallyesque exterior could broaden appeal into a different (M3, TVR, Audi RS sort of market) - Because it is Subaru, they could take a share of this market from the opposition by keeping the price down to the mid twenties - they could also fend off the new Ausi attack on the market with their great 'bang for the buck' concept of Holden Monaros

Come on guys - lets get this enthusiasts realistic wish list motoring before we are stuck with the disgusting proposed Audiesque jellymould - if we can keep it real we can get Prodrive and I.M. to submit it to STI for consideration?

I would have to wish for three times my present income first, for this thread to have any relevance to me. :D

King RA 28 February 2005 11:15 AM

1. Front mount IC as standard
2. More emphasis on lightweight sports car, not gadget laden motorway cruiser...
3. I like your bigger arch idea :D

stevenuk300 still 28 February 2005 11:23 AM

A couple of simple things like a Tracker as standard and a turbo timer that works with the standard alarm/immobilisor. Decent stereo upgrade, speakers especially.
Slightly lower suspension set up and a couple of new body work colours.

Jay_bee 28 February 2005 11:35 AM

2 door, lightweight option back in line with what they did with the Type R/22 etc
Front mount.
AP brakes.
Adjustable suspension

GRIFF007 28 February 2005 11:43 AM

Good stuff - keep it up

Buppa - me and you both - I borrowed far more than my present Scoob is worth and she will have to go to prop up cash flow - but I live in hope... - like most of the non 'Landed' brits still here!!!!

Comment re not being based on family car - yep forgot to mention that - one of the most important wishes is that they offer a sports car / compact sports coupe (like present Celica) in addition to the Rally direct tie - after all Ferrari sell the 456 - not exactly an F1 - doesnt seem to do them any harm - Subaru dont have to stay locked into Rally Clones - particularly as the interest has wained in the public replica section.

Give us 300lb ft / ton compact £20k 2 seater with stunning looks (looks cost nowt!) - look at the TVR Griff - drawn on the back of Peter Wheelers fag packet - first mould made a few weeks later - the world instantly fell in love (and £20k and 300lb ft / ton -- and i have one, yes, yes I confess) - but wouldnt it be great for Subaru to grab part of that market with 4wd and an Audi style paddle shift - I am very confident they could easily do it for the prices - most of the engineering has been developed and paid for

PLEASE, PLEASE + bring on some more character to engine sound - how does a nice bi-turbo version of the Legacy engine sound? - A bit like a Porsche with a little bit of tinkering I imagine!?

Yep, thats the idea - but use the 2.5 four or the six and provide the lux pack option, DSG gbox and big arches...

alcazar 28 February 2005 01:25 PM

What the japs would get:;)

What WE would get:

None of the above at a price premium of about 25-30%

I suspect future Scoobs will need front mounts anyway, to comply with the new pedestrian safety legislation.

Milamber 02 March 2005 01:20 PM

Defi's as standard equipment, and a knocklink.

Gutmann pug 02 March 2005 01:21 PM

Thats its lighter, with better brakes and gets back to being a performance Icon .....

automodellistagt 02 March 2005 04:31 PM

talking of which - this could be the end to the telltale Scooby bonnet scoop.....................................

Neil Smalley 02 March 2005 05:07 PM

Yup :(

FrenchBoy 02 March 2005 05:07 PM

I'd like boost and oil temp gauges as standard.
Sod the stereo (if anything i'd just like some steering wheel/stalk remote controls like every other modern car made since 1995) - and you can keep your chuffing paddle shifts as well!!!!

Lightweight hardcore stripped out 2 seater would be cool.

How about a diesel version.........

........i'll shut the door on my way out.

Jay_bee 02 March 2005 05:10 PM

Whats the problem with the scoop thing??

The Saxo/Nova boys have managed to glue scoops on to their bonnets without the aid of a top mount!!

:D

Neil Smalley 02 March 2005 05:40 PM

The scoop would not pass the new pedestrian safety laws. The difference between Nova's etc and Scoobs as far as these new laws goes is that the Nova's scoop is an aftermarket add on whereas the Impreza one is factory fitted and so falls under the new ped safety laws.

It's the same sort of thing that allows the PPP to be fitted as an aftermarket add on, where as if the PPP came as part of the car it would fall foul of certain emissions regs. Because it's an add on, it falls within a different and less stringent set of regs.

can you imagine a Scooby without a bonnet scoop???!! - what would that be called - an Evo??!! - Lets Hope Prodrive change / fit scoop bonnets otherwise that famous 'face' will be lost, together with some of the following..

Neil Smalley 02 March 2005 05:57 PM

If it makes you feel better, the Evo's bonnet would need to be reshaped too as it's grills and distance from the engine would cause it to fail. That's why cars such as the DB9 would not be able to be designed in future years. It's all a conspiracy to make us drive people carriers :(

Silvafox 03 March 2005 12:58 PM

Built in boost gauge
Better plastics/materials inside
Different colour dials (I hate green ones)
Dampered boot closing so people don't lose their fingers with the high level spoilers fitted!
DCCD as standard
Heated front screen!
Lower roofline as there feels like there's about a foot between the top of my head and the roofline! (and no I'm not a hobbit!)

lem0ncurd 03 March 2005 01:52 PM

- 'Recaro' seats as standard (as per the Evos)
- Better quality interior plastics
- Hydraulic boot opening (as per BMW) not the crappy basic hinge
- 2 door version
- WRC-esque flared arches

LC

Beastie 03 March 2005 07:43 PM

Xenon headlights
Remote opening of boot by keyfod
Proper Stereo and Proper Speakers :)
