My First Scooby

Hi all just found this great site and have been reading for a while now, and thought i'd say hi.

:luxhello:

Anyway after driving a friends customers J reg Legacy turbo, i had to by one, I was well impressed with the handling and the power it has, brought a smile to my little fat face :)
So with cash being tight at the moment i managed to get hold of a 1990 2.2 GX auto. i still cant believe that a 15yr old motor has all those mod cons :)
Anyway got a newbie question ( and no it isn't fuel related as i expected it to drink like a tramp with a new bottle of meths )

It's the auto box. now i could have (poss should have) gone with a manual, but liking a lazy drive i went for the auto as the price was right, but it drives weird. at crusing speed it seems fine, but while excelerating there is sometimes a lot of lag and the engine does rev high, the gear box cant seem to make up it's mind what gear to stay in ect. now is this normal for a Subaru autobox or is it shagged? if shagged how much shoudl i expect to pay for a second hand one or a referb one. or should i out the car and get a manual ( there is a 1.8 turbo near me on a j for 1k, but has no aircon)

btw when i have more desposable income a impreza is definatly on the cards but it may be a while yet.
