West Yorkshire IOC - Mid Month & Thu 31st March Meet

March -- Mars' month

Middle English March(e)
Anglo-French March(e)
Old English Martius
Latin Martius mensis "month of Mars"

March was the original beginning of the year, and the time for the resumption of war. Mars is the Roman god of war...........

Martius has always had 31 days.
Poor planning don't you think? And a military man at that... :nono:

Why did he go and put 5 weeks in it? I mean what's the point? What's wrong with 4? Good solid number that....

Due to this particular Roman God coming up with such a ridiculous number, this months meet will be on the 31st.. Don't blame me, write to Jupiter & Juno, his parents.. Now, your Greek Gods would have had it sorted.. Ares.. now there's a decent God of war.. He'd have had a 3 week month, no messing.. Ok, so he was a murderous coward who was disowned by his parents.. but at least we'd have had decent months..

But seeing as we're using the Julian Calendar; then I'm afraid we're stuck with it...

"But Alan, is there no answer to the Gods and the Roman tinkering with Calendars?" I hear you ask.... Yes there is...... We'll cheat... Therefore, sticking two fingers up to Mars & his damn meddling, we'll also be holding another meet on the 17th.

So come along in your Japanese cars who's Subaru badge represents The Seven Daughters of Atlas & Pleione, related cousins to Ares... Nice one.. :D

Mitsi owners have no such interesting history as the 'Three Rhombs' simply reflect the propeller of a ship... A quick and sharp handling ship admittedly, but still a ship. Sorry guys..

Don't say you never learn anything at a WYIOC doo...!!!

First Meet - Thursday 17th March. Can I propose someone come up with a pub we can drive to from the TP? 30 minute max... It must have a menu.. with Mixed Grill on it.. and nice road to get there :D

Second Meet - 31st March . Normal meet at the TP..

For the second Standard meet, I have pre-booked 'The Cabin' area to the rear of the restaurant so that we can all sit together.

Details of the venue and the place to meet for the drive out is....

Commerce Park, Pioneer Way, Whitwood, Castleford.

PS.. Please do not go into the semantics of Ares & Mars being the same person.. Ta. :D

I dont think anyone need reply to this thread (Apple , Sticky) , as Al has done a good job of muppetising it on the first post :D:D:D

Phil

Harry_Boy 26 February 2005 10:45 PM

Al - you been on the Brummie jungle juice again mate...?? :D:D:D

Anyway, count me in for the 17th and out for the 31st...:D

Are we discussing pressing matters on the 17th? Like cars. Track. For the use of? ;)

Bubba po 26 February 2005 11:47 PM

Sheer drivel... we need some new blood in muppets... you could be da man. :lol1:

Bubba po 26 February 2005 11:51 PM

Alan... is there any reason why we can't eat at the TP on the mid-month meet? Has he got his in-laws round, and he's embarrassed about us?

MadGrip 27 February 2005 07:05 AM

well it had to happen to one of us, a guy who came with me to his first meet after buying his first impreza late last year, and was due at the Well Lane RR session today, has had his car stolen last friday. please keep a look out for it

Reg. No M378 VNN

Sorry to here of the bad news Barry , hope it gets resolved asap :(

Alan C 27 February 2005 08:57 AM

Barry.. I think you'll find our eyes are peeled... Hope you get it back soon..

Bubba me old mate... You can eat if you want to, especially as I know you're slowly building up club speed :D, but it would be good to have a run out to a pub to eat...

The last one we had was to Lady Bower... so we could use this meet to do something similar.. which means that you'll have to wait until the 31st to get your first TP Mixed Grill.. :D

If we feel it'll be too dark.. then maybe something different like a pool tournament? Open to suggestions...

MadGrip 27 February 2005 11:41 AM

bloody 'ell, I knew my car was quick but

just been on the rollers and heres the results

398 BHP @ 6591 revs & 330 lb/ft of torque

Phil

Alan C 27 February 2005 12:58 PM

Cracking figures mate, and guess what... You're taking me out for a spin.. :D You have to get in quick around here.. How did Dazza do?

Sticky Stuff 27 February 2005 01:47 PM

Fookinell Phil

Can't you do owt to squeeze another 2 horses? Carbon dash? Turn off the a/c?

Ah.. got you.:D

Are there going to be any little old ladies bringing their scoobs to this Run Out? I need to be able to keep up with somebody. It might rein in Sticky and Dazza a bit if you make a rule that the person who gets there first buys the first two rounds for the whole club. :D

Besides, the rule for runs is that the most famous looking person in the group tries convincing the bar staff that he's a real celeb and therefore gets a round for nowt. (Let's just hope they're old enough to remember Billy Idol :))

Bubba po 27 February 2005 06:28 PM

:D

MadGrip 27 February 2005 06:40 PM

the guy at well lane reckons its about 430-450 BHP, but didnt want to push it until I could tell him what internal work was done..

all welcome for a test drive :) ( Sticky first tho, as his car convinced me to change)

I'm gonna phone Arnside motorsport next week (who fitted the engine ) to see if they can give me any info..

toi say I'm hsppy is an understatement, but I knew it was quick as it spins all four whhels in first and second & sometimes third :D

I didnt see Dazza's run as I had to leave early due to dads birthday (just got home semi-pissed) anyone wanna join the 400+ club :D:D

Phil

silver sonic 27 February 2005 07:52 PM

Phil I left about 12.00 and you were still the man to beat!
Dazza and Steve had not turned up by then so i have the head units now!
Andy , had a interesting conversation with a guy with a brake upgrade same as mine.
funny thing is poor bugger was more deserving of your ode than me !
12 months to sort! :eek2:
still got a chrimbo card tho! :Whatever_

Apple 27 February 2005 11:10 PM

Gary, from WLT did you go back up Grange Road and see the two plod sat in an estate opposite the technology park? I bet they were waiting for a catch :(

I came down Grange road, saw them and whilst I was sat in traffic lower down there was a white legacy and a classic went up that way with dustbin sized exhausts and trying to see how fast they could blip 'em so I guess they might have been given a hard stare etc as they went past...

Andy

corradoboy 28 February 2005 12:11 AM

Great stuff Phil :thumb: Mighty imprezive ;)

Make no wonder you like it so much. Are we all gonna be treated to some demonstration laps at Rallydrive :D:D:D

MadGrip 28 February 2005 08:11 AM

I'd love to Dave, but I'm scheduled to be working on the day. but if things change I'll be along either to spectate or have a go if theres room.

corradoboy 28 February 2005 06:58 PM

I think there'll be room, slow take-up this time :( Guess it's too much fun at too low a price for some  If I made it £150 there'd probably be more interest

MadGrip 28 February 2005 08:08 PM

Shame really Dave as its a great day out , makes you wonder why you bother sometimes

Not really sure how accurate this is but thought you'd like to see it anyway :D
