g/box crunch

Hi,just bought a 97 sport, put a new clutch in,but it's still a bugger to get into first gear, sometimes two or three goes.Rest of box is a little bit notchy but not too bad.Just embarrassing at the lights !
First post,any ideas,thanks !

G/box on my JDM 95 WRX is clunky too. Most gears seem to need a little persuasion and a clunk before engaging. First can also give me some stick when cold.

Try draining your clutch and filling with dot 5.1. The correct bleeding procedure is on here somewhere, followed it myself in the last month or so, improved things no end. The othere thing is use a decent gearbox oil, personally I am very impressed with silkolene silktran 5, oilman at opie oils can supply at a decent price. Others suggest Castrol Syntrax , there is a thread you can check out here:

In that thread I made a similar enquiry!

Also try changing the gearbox oil to a quality grade. If its got cheap oil, the gearbox will always crunch and be difficult to get smooth changes.

You can also put extra oil in (over max) as I had a crunch problem with my 6 speed gearbox conversion...added more oil and it went - this was along with a new AP Racing clutch which might of needed bedding in also.
