new wrx wagon

Hi just bought a new wrx wagon 51 plate .Two small problems, i'm down to quater of a tank and have only done 125 miles, i do about 25 miles a day and use the car at weekends .I know they are thirsty but is this the norm,i don't go too mad either.Next thing is the steering ihave on the car 18 inch oz wheels but i can't get on with the steering its really light and ihave never had acar with so much play and you feel everything through the wheel the slightest bump and the wheel is all over the place .The garage i bought it off said the steering is okay but said it might drive better on 17 inches better. The head guy use to be on Colin Mcraes rally team so i hope he knowns what he is talking about.Really like the car but thede two things have put me off a little, only had it two weeks so any help would be great cheers

I have had a 200 mile tank and a 400 mile tank normally averages between 250-280 between fills. 125 on 3/4 of a tank sounds like a healthy right foot to me. Re the steering, my MY05 saloon is light and I feel everything through the wheel but I like it, no free play though!!!!?

Hey mate MY02 wagon gets around 200 miles per tank.

You wont get much more on a sensible run 230 -240 max.

And I often get less too 180 per tank with heavy slippers :)

As for the steering, the car must be set up on 4 wheel specialist computer wheel alignment - from TSL or Powerstation etc.

Makes a big difference, especially IF it is out.

And without a doubt - tyre tread pattern / condition makes a HUGE differnce.

Anything other than GoodYear GSD3 F1's or TOYO proxes or similar tread pattern it will be a nightmare on uneven surfaces...

Meaning tramlining, change in direction from camber / grooves worn in road, & less feel when turning in (yep).

Also check your pressures :Whatever_ .

Changing the wheel size wont really make any difference if the same combination ( as above) is used again.

Hope this helps a little. Had mine for nearly 3 years now and have tried many diff. wheel / tyre combis.

These are nice Q cars eh? Esp. with 280 'ish jap ponies :norty: (few "nice" mods)

Take it easy whilst you get to know the limits...

Yeah i bought one (my03) with the ppp last week, thought it had a hole in the tank to start with, but now getting used to just stopping at the petrol station more. went out in it at the weekend, had a drink so me mate drove it home, i fell asleep, only to wake up to find the nobbers doing 145mph down the A30, just to see if its as quick as his sti.

I have an MY01 wagon and regularly get 250-280 on a tank with restrained driving, PPP fitted last month, think I am getting about the same but only filled up once since.

Worst I ever had was 220 after a dash weekend 90-110mph on the motorways
