Hi all,Just thought i'd make myself known as have just purchased a MY99 uk turbo after owning a sport for a year and i'm lovin' it.Have loads of things i want to know about(my knowledge is pretty limited i'm afraid when it comes to anything technical).

As i have never owned a turbo before(or driven one)before getting my new baby i am unsure really as to wether or not she's perfoming as she should,Dont get me wrong its bloody fast but i just wondered really if there was anything to look out for or maybe adjust.The previous owner was a doctor who obviously looked after this car as it was in an un-modded state and in brilliant condition which would suggest to me that this car was probably used for general commuting and everyday use.I know that on the sports you could reset the ECU and then rag it around for a bit while it 'relearns' so is there anyting similar i can do on the turbo?The only thing i have changed so far is the standard cat back system to a magnex 6x4. you can reset the ecu by joining some plugs together under the dash. the only downside is if the ecu has been compensating for a failing maf (which is common on my99) you could risk the engine. In fact the first thing i would do (in hindsight after i blew my my99 up twice) is swap the maf. Alot of my99 owners are changing these yearly as part of the sevice.
As for mods full decat will release quite a few bhp. btw do not buy a induction kit cheers |

If you really want to reset the ECU - do it the easy way by disconnecting the battery overnight.

Really worried about having it reset now:cry: Is it that much of a risk to do it or should i replace the maf first. If i did decide to disconnect the battery would the alarm be ok after reconnecting it? Sorry for being a pain in the arse guys Gaz |
if you do an ECU reset, dont go ragging it around, thats the last thing you should do. Just build the speed and boost up slowly to give the ECU time to relearn.
It advisable to replace the MAF sensor on an MY99/00 every 50K miles or so, change it at the same time you reset your ECU, dont use an induction kit, use a dry panel filter such as a genuine STi item. MAF's cost about £77 and are easy to change. |
you can get the maf from triangle at chesterfield, for the price as stated just make sure you just get the sensor and not complete with the housing as it will be more than quoted. Induction kits tend to depsoit oil onto the maf and fook your engine. As stated above just get a good non oild panel filter such as a sti one (i think there is a group buy going off in that section) or a green cotton one.
