i know that getting an internal one shouldnt be a problem, just need some sort of mount but from where?

also i want to have stuck in the grill so we get a birds eye view, downside is i dont know what i need? any body any suggestions to either?

thanks in advance

alternatively buy a cheap bullet camera (70 quid), and install it permanently in your car. hook it and a mic up to a cheap mini dv camcorder and bobs yer uncle!
you can have a bullet cam just about anywhere on the car without worrying about damage, replacement lenses are about a tenner

where do i get those bullet camera and mic things?

RF Concepts do a kit, about 120 quid AFAIR. Must have DV IN on your camcorder though so check that first.

will have to have a look on ebay for a bargain. Bit thick but is the mic going to be part of the camera with a sperate lead or is it totally sperate? Will the camcorder have a mic input?

billythekid 23 February 2005 01:14 PM

AV in is video and audio.

automodellistagt 23 February 2005 01:45 PM

ok dokey.

have emailed rf concepts as your PM suggested and awiting a reply

security cctv firms will also sell them, i paid £65 for a bullet cam. dv in is a must on your camcorder as mentioned. i use an extrnal mic and amp from maplins, powered off 12v in car. works very well and cost about £100 all in for the lens/mic and amp.

Just to clarify something - DV-in is useless for connecting a bullet-cam to your camcorder. DV is Firewire (or IEEE 1394), and is a high-speed link for transferring to and from a computer (or other DV-enabled device).

What you do need is AV-in, which is not always available on camcorders - even ones with DV-in - so check your spec.

AV-in is both video and audio (usually stereo), so buy yourself a couple of mikes for that real-life effect ;)

will these camera's connect to a screen in a car too ??

Also in a geeky kinda way i was looking at transmitters to see if it was possible to send images back to a pc from a car, but had no joy, anyone got any ideas ???

cheeky bugger :)

All of my filming has been done with a sony dv camera, either mounted inside the car with the camera mount linked at the top of the thread, or mounted on the outside with the same mount.
There are some very specialised ways of getting vid while your in car. One of the best set-ups I saw was at the nec motor show last year. A company there was showing its camera car stuff, which was made up of bullet cameras mounted all over the car, front, back, interior and drivers view, all linked to a pc hard drive. This then docked to a pc @ home, and then you could edit your vid. It also allowed telemetry to be downloaded off the cars ecu in real time, which meant you could not only see the car going down the road or track, you also knew how fast, revs, engine temp, ect :)
Very cool, and very expensive :(
By far the easiest method is mine, once I've got my vid on dv camera, it's just a case of putting it on my pc, then I use pinnacle software to make the movie, burn to dvd, cdr or even video in the old days.

All this talk of pc's and video in car got me searching the web, and I came up with this excellent forum on the subject digital-car

RFC do sell a 4 chan 100FPS multiplex unit that will record 4 cams at full 25FPS.
