Coil Packs,Chasis No question

I have a MY96WRX which is in need of new coil packs.
I have a friend who runs a small garage,he is ordering them for me so i get them trade.
Subaru want a chasis number,i told him its an import, yet subaru still want a bloody chasis number.
A couple of questions:

1,Am i right in saying there is only 1 type of coil pack for a MY96WRX?
2,Is my chasis number any good for them as its import?
3,Why cant subaru just let me order a set of flipping coil packs.

Thanks

Id say that it depends on your dealer... The 'new' dealers in Sheffield are Montys and they have a CD/fiche for JDM cars as well; correctly identifying my GF8. Not all dealers are as accomodating; there was a thread here a couple of weeks ago where a fellow had been turned away by his local dealer as he only had a JDM chassis number and not a VIN.

Id suggest approaching the dealer yourself by telephone and offering your chassis number and seeing how they respond; decide what to do depending on whether they welcome you of f*ck you off.....
