After Fox Hunting what will New Labour ban next?

My money is on Coarse Fishing.

George Monbiot has let slip how the New Labour 'ban it all' brigade see their role in society:

As an animal welfare issue, fox hunting comes in at about number 155. It probably ranks below the last of the great working class bloodsports, coarse fishing.

Best auction your tackle on Ebay now, while it's still worth something.

UB:(

Breathing !!!

SHESCOOBY 19 February 2005 09:45 PM

Sorry but here is my view

I am a horsey person, i work with horses, but i do not like the hunting, its a a shame to call it a sport, that is cruel to the poor fox..... being run to exhaustion and then rip to shreads whiles still alive is not a humain way to control these animals, I know how disrupted these animals can be but there is a humain way of controlling them. These are my views but i am not one of these protestors that boast thats it cruel etc. I just let them get on with it, if it remains then fine....... if it remains banned then fine.

Regarding the fishing side of things...... I doubt very much that this will ever be band........ dont ask me why tho ;)

Ok ranty mode off

:D

Fishing is next, wait and see ..................

This is a version of my post that didn't make it in the recently "modvaped" one.

As a vegetarian but not a vegan I don't claim any moral highground. I realise that country ways are different to city ways. I didn't object to fox hunting apart from some class issues. I don't object to the Innuit hunting, killing and using seals.
I don't object to anyone hunting, shooting or fishing for their food themselves.
It is more acceptable to me than those who expect their meat in nice plastic packages in the supermarket so they don't have to think about how it got there.
Mass production of eggs means millions of day old male chicks minced up.
And how Kosher and Halal slaughter is still allowed defeats me, if reducing cruelty to animals is important.

So, do you have any opinions on the subject of this thread or are you just being hypocritical? If the former, let's hear them. If the latter - put a sock in it ;)

Well said, in a number of ways. :) As it happens you are the most qualified person to take the moral high ground should you so choose. Instead you have a balanced and tollorant attitude, which is highly commendable..

You may well  But that's not how your beloved party see it. Again:

As an animal welfare issue, fox hunting comes in at about number 155. It probably ranks below the last of the great working class bloodsports, coarse fishing.

I reckon they have yet to come up with some more wacky things to ban in cars once they realise that banning mobile phones doesn't stop people from being bad drivers:

1) Eating/Drinking
2) Talking
3) Sneezing
4) Fellatio ;)
5) Personal grooming
6) Stereo systems

And then there are the things other than co-proxamol we might want to kill ourselves with, and hence avoid paying tax:

1) All remaining analgesics
2) Anything else remotely poisonous
3) Walking near the edge on bridges/cliffs etc.
4) Knives and other sharps

And then they will realise the list is getting so big it will be easier to ban *everything* by default and make a list of things New Labour says we *can* do:

1) Breathing (begrudgingly)
2) Eating (but not in or near a car!!!)
3) etc etc

Abdabz 20 February 2005 10:08 AM

Hopefully before they go on to ban more things they will tighten up the easily sidestepped laws around fox hunting... Hunt Protestors should be given legal powers to shoot huntsmen in the face with blunderbusses... Once thats sorted lets ban my post-curry poos...good lord - I am burning this morning :D!!!
