Do imports still cost more to insure?

Few years since I've had a Jap car.
Does a STi5 still cost twicw as much to insure as a P1?
Does an import Evo7/8/9 cost twice as much as a UK one?

It did last year.

Standard STI 5 worth £18,000 cheapest I could get it for was £4,000

Standard P1 worth £18,000 cheapest was £2,000

I was 25 then, 4 years no claims. Just had my renewal through about 3 weeks ago and its now gone down to £1400 (26 with 5 years NCD)

Imported Evos were coming in at about the same sort of price so I obviously opted for the P1!

Hope that helps!

Thanks guys.
£542 for a STi is bloody great!
So you might aswell pay the few extra quid and buy official since you'll end up paying any saving to the insurance man anyway!

Usually, yes they do, but not always. However, the bigger problem can be other restrictions attached to policies on imports. For example, many companies will not insure under 30s on imports now.

Unfortunately thats not a problem for me anymore!

Am only 26, insuring an import with belldirect.co.uk cost me only £62 more than a UK would have done.

I'm not sure about the U.K., but I know that my Scooby is getting insured for the same price as my 1993 Chevy Corsica was. They're both the same years.... I dunno, just trying to be helpful.

I thought all evo's were imports apart from the evo 8 260 which was the only evo made for the UK market hence why its the slowest evo you can buy.

Insure an import over a UK - hell yes, anywhere from 50% to 100% more in my experience....

Evos I through to early VI were grey imports. Late Evo VI's became official UK cars (which is nice because that's my favourite Evo and I'd like one!), so you can buy Evo's from then onwards as UK cars. Technically they are imported though!

So does that mean an officially 'imported' Evo sold through Mitsi will cost far less to insure than a personally imported jap Evo?
