What a day !

Took my 03 STI in to have new tyres fitted, told them be careful as the wheels were expensive (PFF7 18's) And that I'd call later to collect the tyres......... You know whats coming don't you :mad:

You guesssed it, got a call 30 mins later saying theyd damaged one wheel, when I got there they'd damaged two wheels. I told them to just put the car back together, don't fit anymore tyres and I'd be back later.

I go back later, they say they will sort the wheels out, I asked for the old tyres (4-5000 mile old RE040'S with 5-6mm of tread left) AND THEY SAY THEY'VE BINNED THEM !!! :cry:

Binned them my arse.
Someone there prob wanted them.
insist you get new wheels,do not let them refurbish them.

Sorry to hear about your wheels mate, used to work in the tyre industry a long while ago. Never leave your pride and joy at a tyre depot, so that the school leaver on 80 quid a week can be left to practice while your not there and then swipe the old tyres to flog to a mate for a bit of pocket money. A wheel with 45 series tyres requires a skilled fitter. Tyre companies are insured against damage to wheels and should replace with new. If no joy at depot level report it to their head office.

Sorry to here about that, I agree that you should go for new wheels. The car went in to have tyre's fitted not to have the wheel's refinished.


On a slightly different subject, does anyone know what the model number in the Potenza range the new semi slick's are as fitted to the 05 STI?

RE070 In the dry they are superb, great grip great feel, but in the wet when they are cold, they can be a little unpredictable.

Tires with 6 mm left in them are almost new. They´re yours and they represent a value. The tire company will have to compensate you or give you back the tires. Don´t believe they binned them, they are in a container somewhere or someone has them.

Tyres don't get binned...they get put into a huge storage bin or a tyre pile round the back which will get emptied by a tyes collection truck every week or so.

They are probably in there, and they can't be arsed to root around for them...or someone working there fancied a set of free part worn tyres ;)

Adding to what Ali has said; the tyres are yours and must be returned to you; thet arent forfeited. Tyre firms dispose of unwanted tyres at their cost (about £4 per tyre in some places) as part of their service.....

As has been said, the tyres are NOT binned!

Not sure if you would get new wheels, unless they were new anyway?

Now I've had time to cool down I'll sort them out tomorrow

Car goes into TSL this week for a remap so that'll cheer me up

BTW do TSL fit tyres ?
