You already have one, so why fit another?

Dark Blue Mark 14 February 2005 04:04 PM

Also, its 2 seperate questions.

Many fit them even though there is no benefit, but they want the noise (fair enough)

MB,

There is a benefit in some circumstances, otherwise Subaru and every other manufacturer of turbo cars wouldn't fit them as standard. Just the standard ones don't make a stupid noise.

I have run a car without one, and it improves lag on gear changes (yes it does, please don't argue), but that's not the whole story. When you start to look at larger turbos, there are a number of problems to over come, that can be sorted with by the use of an appropriate dump valve. For VERY large turbos running HIGH boost (ie well over 2 bar) you have the problem of pressure spikes when you back off the throttle. If you are using a MAF sensor with a large turbo (ie Td05-20g and above) the flow reversions on back off totally screw around with the MAF sensor, and that causes jerkiness, and generally makes it unpleasant to drive "normally".

Good aftermarket Re-circ valves will often give less lag between changes than an OE valve, simply because they are setup to open less easily, and make the system closer to having no valve at all.

All production scoobs come with a dump valve as standard.

Think your poll is on about aftermarket ones

Uprated re-circ if your running high boost, yeah why not.

VTA - no thanks. Only if I was running a non airflow driven ECU, but even then not really my cup of tea.

Pavlo, I know the issues in detail and was assuming the thread meant VTA's -given it said "would you fit one"

Holy Hog Sh*t didn't realise this was such an in depth subject, just been reading through some of the old posts, made my mind up to stay with the original DV as fitted by Subaru.

And anyway being 40  means that I am far to old for the WHOOOOOOOOOOOSH

Thanks
