Selling car on ebay..a good idea?
 

I am planning on putting my Beemer up for sale, and loads of people have said it will gte good money on ebay....

I advertsied my last m3 on ebay, and ended up paying fees totalling about £80 for a non-paying bidder....

In the end I sold it on autotrader....

So what do you guys think of ebay car selling.....will it work or will I get endless emails offerring crap pex's and derisery offers? not to mention the non paying bidders...

Thing I dont like about autotrader is that its hard to vet those who come to see the car, and I hate showing my car to the local bone thug drug dealers.....

Please advise.....

sold my last 3 cars on ebay....20k BMW, 4K renualt and 18k TVR.

all sold within 48hrs of end of auction......i would NEVER used the trader again. As long as your add is VERY clear about terms you will be fine. (also i delete any bids from anyone with less than 10 feedback...keeps the idiots at bay)

I agree with Tiggs.

You've got to be absolutely straight in describing the car and make it clear that participants in the auction are bidding for the car; not to get to the front of the queue to start negotiations.

A friend of mine sold his mini a few weeks ago.

Bloke won the auction, came to get it and pay for it, then offered my mate a lower price on what he actually Bid.

Stupidly my friend accepted, althought it was less than he wanted, he needed the quick sale.

What I say is make sure you sell it at the winning price, as Ebay say, it is a binding contract you enter when you bid.

But watch out, there are people who will F*** you over!

it was via an auction...i put it on witha start price at my lowest amount i would take and set no reserve.

highest bidder won.....no idea what the cost was.

i know someone who sold his motorbike on ebay, the winning bidder did a no show, so he offered it to the next highest bidder an got rid wihin a week, i guess there is always the slight back up of 2nd chance offers.

ive won lots cars on ebay and bought some from ebay agreed without bidding



normally would have to have a reason to knock the price down though, ie a fault not discribed etc

Personally i'd be reluctant to use Ebay and if i did i'd specify local users only.
No-one with any sense is going to buy a car without looking at it.

i dont agree with that comment


ebay is so fookin big now its unreal people rely on honesty if your honest on there no problem, if your not your only wasting your own time and money


i feel its now startind ti determin the whole market, how many times have you herd when buying something..... well i could get xxx on ebay for it...

ive got a 1998 passat tdi on ebay, 105k in red, two low front tyres, mot exp end april 05, presentable car inside out couple little marks, its reachin £1600 and i will let it go to the highest bidder

i just let em ride ont here and take a gamble, normally the price they make is the price i guessed they would so im allways happy


fair enough look in papers but everything you see on ebay judge it as an honest description and bid accordingly, if its not as described when you view you walk... simple


seller know this, its only the odd **** who lets it down
