Slightly worrying that they have equipment which will render the tracker unit useless.

The simple fact is, if someone wants your car enough they will take it regardless of what you do to protect it, the more un-stealable your car is the more likely theives are to break into you your house or kick your door in with knives and cs gas.

but on the positive side statistically its unlikely to happen so cheer up and get a good nights sleep :) :) :)

if they had removed the tracker before the car was moved how ccan it be found??????? didnt think they sent any kind of signal until needed??????? ok so i not that way minded so maybe im wrong..........

I have asked RAC Trackstar about this "device". They told me they are not aware of any such device. As I subscriber to their service I am very concerened about this. I would be grateful if someone could PM me with details which I can then get back to Trackstar with.

Time to re-install my tracker in a proper stealth location, with loads of armour and self amalgamating tape into the main loom (unlike now :mad: ).

Tracker might not approve, but this will stop them finding it and cutting the power wires to it so quickly :mad:

If a criminal uses their head, there is some very common locations to for these things, along with alarm and immobiliser ECU's. A little experince in the industry goes a long way. It doesn't matter if you "advertise" this on a BBS...as the scum already know where its fitted and how to get round it without even resorting to a using a £10 "gadget".

Best way round it is relocate the unit in the most non-obvious and awkward places, and stealth the wiring so it's part of the main wiring loom. Locating it in a place where you need to unbolt and remove lots of large components just to gain access is ideal. Lets just say the average tracker location on most cars isn't exactly hard to get at.

How long have they been operating? Seems to me they been going for years :mad:

there is always people stealing cars, no disrespect but if you were going to the touble of stealing/towing a car with tracker on would you go for a 93 wrx or 04/05 wrx

a friend of mine had is sti8 stolen. they broke in had the device to find his tracker, removed the sim card in the tracker and away it went. never to be seen again.

Tracker kept on calling the system and some tw*t answered his mobile with the sim in laughing!!!!

From my experience with a conventional Tracker Monitor (had on my last 2 scoobs) both fitted by different sub-contractors to Tracker at oposite ends of the country they must be only a few locations they use for the installation, unfortunatly in my instance both in exactly the same place and exteremly easy to locate and disable!

The very nature of the people that install these devices would suggest they go for the quick and easy fix 99% of the time - as sub-contractors to large corporations like RAC Trackstar they will be on a very low fixed price installation per car, to this end the more they install in a day the more £££ they earn.

When I get my hands on my new STi I'm going to fit a second decoy device in the factory fit location (I have an old Tracker unit and battery) and re-install the armed unit elsewhere... spend enough time taking your car apart and putting in back together and it could be almost impossible to find... unless that is you can detect the signal???!!!

Another thing - my Roadangel that uses GPS can't get a signal if your parked beside a high rise building, under a bridge or in a multi-storey car park - I imagine this applies to the Trackstar, can it store the last co-ordinates in it's memory so it can broadcast these or if it can't get a signal it simply comes back not found?

heres an idea install a dummy in 2 separate locations i.e two real-looking fake ones in the most common locations and the original somwhere hard to get like ali-b said.

Only any good if they can't use a '£10 device' to located the real/armed one.... I'm thinking one of those cheapo flashing units you get to stick on your mobile that flashes away when it's in use or about to ring.... it would be quite easy for them to pick the signal up with one of those?

there must be an easy to make the dummy send duff signals, u could use a 3210 or some other cheap fone because fones constantly send and recieve a signal from the operator but would be hard keeping it charged all the time. just put fit it inside the dummy

Maybe the purchase of 2 trackers?? The RAC trackstar is built to new age scoobs and only cost £300 something for lifetime subscription. Then purchase a different manufacturers tracker??

yeh i was thinking that too but though there might be conflicts or something. but if there aren't its a good idea, one thing that bothers me is that if they find out they might spend a few extra seconds and deactivate that. or they may think the tracker systems been updated and scooby theft will decrease.

true but the longer it takes and the harder it is for them must meen a better chance of them getting there balls squashed brother in law is a sparky and has re-mounted ecu and ran a mobaliser to it the way it works is amazing :thumb:
