Anyone drive a left hand drive car?
 

Im thinking of buying a C6 corvette.....just wondered what LHD is like day to day........is it a big deal or fine onve you get used to it?

At 1st its strange but you do get use to it.

The only problem is you need a passenger to tell you when its ok to overtake.

depends on your day to day use really.
I could cope with one no problem as I dont have to deal with toll booths or drive-through situations very often at all.
As above, the only bind is overtaking can be a bit harder, but you learn to compensate by sitting further back from the car you want to pass etc.

If I saw a car I liked enough and it was LHD, it wouldnt bother me.

I used to drive one and you get used to it :) If you pull right over to the kerb you can see past a car to overtake from that side ;) Drive throughs and multi story car parks where you take a ticket can be fun though ;)

Having once driven an American dayvan (daily) for 3 years I much prefer lhd.

The higher van is easier to see passed traffic when overtaking than a car, but it's not difficult to place yourself correctly in a car anyway on single lane roads. Dual carraigeways and motorways aren't an issue.

Sitting in the kerb, out of the way of oncoming traffic is great and you can't half judge cornering a treat.

Carparks and drive-throughs are a problem though.

Overall I'd not have a problem driving a lhd vehicle again, loved it.

CIS insurance in Colchester offered the best by far quote for American vehicles also if you aren't already fixed up.

It may well be CIC -It's defo Colchester Insurance something ( services or centre).

Centre rings a bell now and that comes up on the search as a more likely option.

My WRX and MR2 Spyder are both LHD. Parking garages and drive-thrus would be a nightmare if they weren't ;)

If you can stretch to it check out the upcoming Z06 Corvette - I generally don't like Corvettes but that even catches my eye. With the exchange rate as it is right now one of those would be a steal.

the Z will be manual....i want an auto so no good...also want a rag top.

my car is special - RHD with LHD instructions. If I could get the wife to sit in the back where I couldn't hear her it would be even better

Rag top Corvettes with automatic transmissions are one of the reasons I'm loathe to consider a Corvette of any type. Make sure you specify the power operated shoe rack in the boot.

I love convertibles, corvette is a very good soft top.

I dont see the need for a manual gear change any more than i would want windows with winders on them!

The about of times when I'm abroad I jump into a LHD car to drive it and get in the wrong side is unbeliveable! :D

Some mornings when I'm worse for wear I actually sit in the car and then realise there's no steering wheel...followed by me cursing..doh!! :lol1:

A friend I know had a LHD car and went thru the dartford tunnel a lot....

Solution: A small stick with a deodorant lid nailed to it, place the pound in the cup and poke the stick out the passenger window then turn. Voila!

Surely you must have driven in Europe with your rhd? Same difference. I drove a lhd over here. Great for quick shopping - step straight out onto the pavement. Don't know why rural posties don't have lhd post vans. May effect UK selling price though. DL
