When you say it can't see the whole 250gigs, do you mean in windows ? How did you partition and format the drive ?

Goto run in the start menu and type compmgmt.msc and click on storage/disk management. What does it say ? Is there any unpartitioned space on the drive ? :)

What does the BIOS say?

There is an issue called LBA48 which I think refers to the maximum addressable space but the following explain it better

Google is your friend - "137gb xp" 2nd link

what type of drive is it? Perhaps try the website of the HDD manufacturer.

I recently purchased a Seagate 160Gb HDD and also had the 137Gb limit problem. Installed a 'drive wizard' program from the Seagate website and this made all the necesary changes to recognise the full 160Gb.

i'm running win2000pro sp4 btw

I recently installed a 300Gb Maxtor disk, and had to use their "drive wizard" so that the OS sees the disk correctly.

Is your BIOS upto date ?

right click "my computer" then click on "manage" in there is all the options you need to sort your hard drive out

One thing that fooked me up was I had everything set to AUTO and the drive was using CHS instead of LBA, I had to manually configure this, although this stopped it booting properly (CHS)

The 104 gb of unallocated space you mention is unpartioned, unformatted space, this is the remainder of your 250gb's. You need to right click on this block of space and click on format. :)
