ScoobyJohn2000, as Mark has already said, if you think a VTA dumpvalve increases power, you really don't understand how a match stick works, let alone a bl*&dy turbo!
:iamwithst

Fuzz 11 February 2005 12:22 AM

PMSL at chris's "workings of a matchstick"

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............

Peanuts 11 February 2005 07:38 AM

my VTA lasted one trip around the block.

then was royally hoofed into the bin.

Seems to me that *some* on here are desperate to justify how great these Chav-horns are and will fly in the face of reason/science to keep up the charade

Gear Head 11 February 2005 08:42 AM

Vta's are wicked innit! :lol1:

Olly Powers 11 February 2005 08:45 AM

I appreciate why people have them and why they don't.

But why do people who don't have them insist upon forcing their way of thinking on others?
If its really a done issue, how come only one tuner won't sell you one?
Why are all the rest still selling them?
If having a VTA makes me a Chav, I ain't going to lose any sleep over it.
I'd be far more worried about turning into one of you "pipe and slippers purists"
Must get boring, don't do anything to your car, and try to bully others into sharing your opinion. I'm sure someone will explain what the big draw is?

p.s My wife drives a Nova, and if you think that makes her a chav, your no further up the evolutionary ladder than the burrberry wearers you poke so much fun at.
Cheers,
Olly

A case in point.
Constructive comment? No
Showing the posters desire to be "chavvy"? YES
Stop fighting it, theres a burrberry shop near you.

Peanuts 11 February 2005 09:03 AM

320bhp here.

Must get boring, don't do anything to your car
must make that statement bollax then?

My wife drives a Nova, and if you think that makes her a chav
if its got big wheels and plastic add ons then yes, it does.
if it doesnt then no, it doesnt.

the point about these vta threads is that the purists will say this and that, but the only reason for fitting a vta is the noise it makes.

lets assume that there really is not a jot of difference between the workings of vta and re-circ for a moment.....

if its no different then it comes down to aesthetics and sounds.
changing your car for either of those two reasons DOES make you a chav in a chav mobile.

give me a reason, it doesnt even have to be a good one, why you would want to change the std. re-circ dump valve for a vta???

Dark Blue Mark 11 February 2005 09:12 AM

Theres more than 1 tuner that won't sell them, and thats for a reason - they are the most reputed in the UK tuning scene. Again, its fact that it mucks around with the ECU / fuelling and for that reason, they CANNOT be a good thing on a MAF based car, where the MAP cannot compensate for it, which it cannot.

If you're running BHP, you may well have to uprate it, but by the same token you will probably not be using the maf to calc engine load, and will be using a more advanced ECU.

Olly Powers 11 February 2005 09:21 AM

320bhp? Means you've "chavved" your car up big style innit.
Sorry mate you ain't a purist.
Can I assume you have modified the exhaust to change the sound? chav.
So, do you run standard wheels? No? chav.
Please enlighten us as to what is acceptable. You say big wheels on a Nova is "chavvy", why isn't it the same for a Subaru?

Can you list them please?

Peanuts 11 February 2005 09:25 AM

dont have big wheels on my car thanks you chav!
my exhaust is larger diameter for function only, its actually quieter than std.
I have removed the stiIV spoiler and replaced it with a low level one.
the visual appearence of my car is the same as near as dammit as it left the factory.

I assume that your wifes car does have big wheels etc. from your comment and hence have no need to cast any aspersions that you havent made blatently obvious...

richieh 11 February 2005 09:27 AM

a couple of questions
doesnt the d.v. only open when throttle is shut?
i'd have thought the fuel would have been cut to idle levels at this point

also with the recirc valve it cannot pressurize the intake (maf to turbo) very much so the air thats been through the turbo must go back out over the maf and this will have oil in it(small amounts) which cannot be good for the maf i'd have thought

can someone tell me where my logic goes wrong?
ps i have got a vta but its sat in the tool draw doing nowt
richie

Peanuts 11 February 2005 09:31 AM

maybe thats why the breathers are often re-routed via a catch can or simply to the road Richie, the prevent these blow by gasses.

Thanks mate, your keeping a smile on my face today.
I assume your in your 50's?
And you live in a high crime area (hence your need to make your car blend into the background)
And you didn't answer my question. If putting big wheels on a Nova is "chavvy" why doesn't the same apply to Subaru's?
Changing 13" steels for 14" alloys on the Nova is chavvy??
Its a 1.2 merit with upgraded suspension and wheels, purely functional as far as I'm aware. So why is it "chavvy" just because its a Nova?
p.s And this is a serious question now: If you have a larger diameter exhaust, how can it be quieter than the standard one?
Cheers,
Olly

scoobyjohn2000 11 February 2005 09:52 AM

chris if i wanted ur lip i would rip it off ur face?

as for more power...faster spool up time...=better low down boost...=faster 1/4
or doesn't that make sense to u?

mark can u tell me which tuner will not sell me one as they must be the best place to take my car?? Just tryed a little back street garage called API and they sell 9 types of dump valve(and they will fit) so i dont really want to take it there???

Peanuts 11 February 2005 09:55 AM

Olly,
30
low crime nice enough area in southern Hampshire
same does apply IMHO

Andy

John,

However, the answer to this is really easy!
if it is on your car, it is Chav.
If it is on their car, its performance and style.

not true, and who are your and their?
Chav and not chav??

scoobyjohn2000 11 February 2005 10:02 AM
