Stueyb 09 February 2005 12:53 PM

She should get a proper job instead of fannying about on big boats. Must be ok to do f all and get B&Q to pay for it.

ALi-B 09 February 2005 12:57 PM

Who said I hadn't tried it. I just said I'd never gotten the pope to try it :cuckoo:

Actually I have tried watching sailing, and yes I found it very boring.

I've also tried actually being on a boat and going sailing (sailed around the Scottish isles, starting from Plockton a few years ago with some friends in a single hull thing with a cabin, sails etc - don't know the technical terms), and I found that very boring as well.

Just doesn't float my boat so to speak ;)

dpb 09 February 2005 03:43 PM

its a mindset thing i 'spose - not the quick fix youd get from say, sprinting round the track in a racecar..............................and rather more of a finacial commitment, generally

Obviously not enough booze on board... ;)

Yep, each to their own....

I personally find lazing around on a beach mindnumbingly boring after about 10 minutes, but millions of people spend every day of their holidays doing it.

Likewise, if I say to my friends that my idea of a good holiday is to get the boots on and go walking up scarfell pike in mid-February, they look at me as if I was mad :D

If everyone was the same, it'd be a boring place.... :)

dpb 09 February 2005 03:54 PM

in febRuary........:cuckoo:.............:D.......Ive done bottom part o the penine way in march, 3/4 years back ....that was intresting.....what we could see of it thro the fog an snow..:D........

If anyone is interested in the outcome of Sports Personality of the Year 2005, i'm looking for 4/1 that she will be the winner. The outcome is in November. If you don't think she'll win, this could be the bet for you. PM me if interested, ta. :)

Iain Young 09 February 2005 04:02 PM

:D

There's nothing quite like sitting on top of one of the big hills / mountains in the snow and ice, drinking hot tea / coffee / soup from a flask, with nobody else around, and stunning views. Personally I reckon the Lake District is at it's best at that time of year...

Can be a bit cold though ;)

Pretty much like sailing across the bristol channel in the pitch black and staying up past your watch to see the sunrise as the porpoises dive under the prow of the boat and hitting penzance smack on the nose with dead reckoning. with nobody about :D:D:

Great sense of achievement

I have also done a few of the pikes maybe not in the snow and also quite alot of snowdonia

I have a thousand and one stories about sailing trips and dont even get me started on greek islands cruising (best holiday ever).

Its a shame you cant appreciate both Ian.
If you had got more involved on your scotttish island trip maybe you would have enjoyed it more (perhaps i'm being unfair and you did)

but fir fecks sake let it lie

dpb 09 February 2005 06:17 PM

2nd biggest tide in the world too....

LOL - her own story! Lets face it shes had plenty of time to write it having been towed round the world by that helicopter for 71 days!!!
"Solo" round the world records - solo? tailed by planes and helicopters day after day, live video phone, radio, gps system, constant contact with an entire team of beardies back in blighty...
As for have I or would I do it - well no - I have a life I am quite happy with thanks - but if I looked like her I would spend lots of days on my own too...

I'll stick my winnings from the election result on this one, I think. Chance of Tories winning are zero, and Ellen M has done it too early in the year, is in too much of a minority "sport", and will lose votes 'cos she's, frankly, a bit of a moose.**

A safe bet that she'll get an honourable mention, but that's all.

**Which, rather obviously, I have no problem with.
