CEL Light any ideas?
 

Hi ppl please help

A friend has just bought his first scooby about 2 weeks ago. Its a my94 wrx and has only been in this coutry for the past 4 months. It is totally standard as far as we know and is in v. good condition for its age.

It runs sweet as a nut but now occasionally the CEL light comes on and reduces boost pressure and allows the car to continue running but i think in some sort of 'safe mode'. The CEL light will go out again after a short time and all will be well again? Strange?

Advice so far

Could be the ecu getting 'used' to our fuel (optimax n octane boosta). Should last a week or so whilst ecu 'learning'.
So far cars been running on this fuel for past two weeks and still light comes on.

Somebody mentioned about the petrol cap being loose??? It has some sort of sport cap that can have a pump placed throu the cap without the need to open. Could be a faulty seal on cap???
We have a new normal type petrol cap coming tomorrow and will try.

Any more advice gratefully recieved.
