MAF Question........Again,Sorry.

I have got all the simptons of a failing MAF, Eg Eratic idle, when revved upto 3K and left to drop the revs drop down to just about nothing then bob up n down between 600/1200 and if i take the multiplug off the MAF sensor the revs drop alittle then the car carrys on running.
So my question is......Is the MAF sensor an item the dealer keeps in stock?.If not will it be ok to run the car (need it for the school run) as long as i keep it off boost.?

my99 onwards just buy the sensor bit cost about £80, pre my99 costs a few hundred. Dealer would probably have them in stock but best ring, but they will probably ask for reg plate and vin to make sure you get the right one. Personally I wouldnt drive one with a dodgy maf

Sorry i didnt make that very clear,I ment is it ok to run the car for a day if i have to order the sensor.

I made that sound as i was never gonna change it.......

I think you'll be fine! High speed/revs kills engines that are a bit poorly, IMO :D

You'll be fine as long as you just dawdle around in it - you'll find it would cut out anyway if you were daft enough to try to floor it. Mine went on a Sunday in the West of Ireland last year and I drove - gingerly- all the way back across Ireland to the ferry and from Fishgaurd to Cardiff before I could get it changed. Right as rain once replaced.

Dealers usually stock (as they keep going..) and it's about a 20 min job, even if you do it yourself.

Well what a day.....

Phoned Subaru, Sheffield , and they had the sensor in stock, so on the way down i called into Halfrauds for the T20 torx bit BUT they tell me they dont stock it any more but they do stock a rail of them (sockets) for 17 Quid!!!!.So i bought them. Then when i get to Subaru the sensor cost me 77 Quidbut they did offer to fit it for FREE!!! but i declined cos i`d just spent 17 Quid on the sockets.

Once fitted i fired up the car........BUT it was a little better but still eratic,so i reset the ECU then it gave me the oxygen sensor error code sooooooo back i went to the dealers and that cost me 121 Quid.....and they didnt offer to fit that!!!! and what a job that is,took me bout 40 mins found it easyer to take the intercooler off.

Anyway its all done now and it feels like a different car to drive!

Steve
