HELP HELP HELP overheating after ecu swap

help me someone please i put a z4 ecu on mycar this morning (93wrx) and took it out to try, car was running well but then over heated big time split the radiator could this be down to the ecu ? obviously im not very happy,or if the ecu could not do this what other thing could this be i have put the original ecu back on now but still overheats its only a small split on the radbut obviously needs replacing and idea how much one of these costs, the fans are all working fine,

i hope someone can help me

TBH I think this is a coincidence. The Z4 ecu increases boost and fuel cut and has the appropriate fueling for these adjustments (Over your original ecu). I cant see this causing your rad to split.
The rad must have been weak, my rad went in the same place. Car runs ok until you start to drive hard, when you stop you've got steam coming from under the bonnet.
IIRC my rad cost me circa £60 secondhand, a new one is in the region of £150 (SERCK)

Agreed, if you think about it, that rad is 12 years old

Out of breath after reading a post with no punctuation :D

sorry my grammer is terrible, i hope it is just a coincidence, the rad has split on the rightside plastic not the metal bit :( i was happy about more boost car running really well then in a bit of traffic and steam, temp needle up the top, l was going to southend to pay the esc a visit for the first time tonight aswell
anyone know the best place (cheapest) to get a new rad
cheers for the replys xvw

i had my plastic tank on my rad replaced for 50 quid, after being told to buy a new as they cant be fixed but im a tight git ,its a common problem on imprezas,
at a guess its the left hand side of the rad as look from the front, at the top hairline crack.
loads of places cant fix this. but i know a company that stocks the tanks left or right side mine as good as a new after 10k you also cant bodge it with glues/sealers etc i tryed.
smells like you local indian take way ,as the coolent runs down the rad and blows on to the headers

sounds like expansion tank or top hose to me.
expansion tank = £60 quid new
Top hose = £18
Had both of these on mine.
The extra heat and conicidence of the leak both helped by the extra right toe you were giving it to test the new ecu.
When i upraded to the z4 ecu it took a few ays for the ecu to settle retard the ignition enought to keep save det levels..take it easy for a bit
Then it will run ok

yes i was giving it plenty of right toe (you have to :) ) also had to take it over 112 as im not sure whether the limiter for imports is in the ecu or not, as you can guess im not very clued up
it was running well though with 0.9bar boost
i have already replaced the expansion tank a few weeks ago the small pipe lug snapped of
its a crack top left of the rad :(

Our next batch are being made with brass end tanks so the problem will be gone forever. So then they'll be a genuine Subaru core with API developed brass end tanks. Better heat sink - better manufacture, better all around AND probably not any dearer.

So good news all around really.
