Managed to kill my centre diff - RR related?
and I don't know how. Actually, it was the viscous diff - noticed it REALLY noisey the last week or so, so Chris (of CCS Performance) stripped it down for me and found the fault.
A couple of hours later, and with the appropriately replaced parts, the box was rebuilt and the car's now as quiet as a mouse (apart from the exhaust ;)) btw.... got a nice fly-by vid of my car with the exhaust tone if anyone is interested? pm me for the URL if you are. Chris also fixed a problem I had where 5th gear pops out from time to time. Superb! Anyway.... back to the point...... the only place I can think it may have stressed the diff is on a rolling road I attended recently. Has anyone else ever had "issues" following a dyno run? |
What kind of noises were you getting, just that I've had a uprated STI clutch and flywheel fitted to my car a few weeks ago but now over the past few days there is a loudish noise coming from the box particulary under engine braking, like a knid of grinding scraping noise, which is louder when the DCCD is in a more locked position.

It was more like a whirry-whine, if that makes sense, at any speed over 30mph. It was consistent with road speed, rather than engine speed.

hi burr i found out what the noise was! it was a spriigot bearing which went in the middle of the flywheel, the ball bearings were stuck solid with clutch dust! a 8 pound bearing got stuck on my brand new flywheel and took 5 hours to sort out

Burr : Did you replace your centre viscuous? I have a Jap centre viscuous from an STi 5 with 39K mls.

Chrisj from CCS donated one from one of his old MY02 gearboxes..... its sweet now. (Thanks again for the offer, though)
