Morning of misery on the rollers
Help Please!!
need some idea of what to do with my car. i went to clive atthowe this morning for a power run of the rollers and hit a few problems. my car is a my93 wrx saloon running the following mods. 3" revolution exhaust (open neck downpipe) megan racing headers (wrapped) blitz sus induction 440cc injectors walbro fuel pump performance sx fuel reg hks evc iv boost controller samco turbo hoses scoobyecu 15.5 psi knocklink + boost gauge clive tried the first run with the boost controller set at 1.10 kg/cm and it hit the fuel cut at 4000rpm so i lowered the boost controller 1.00kg/cm and it still hit the fuel cut. so final try was to set the controller on low setting of 0.80 kg/cm and it managed a run to 6748rpm. it produced 293.4 bhp and 241.9 lb/ft of torque. i now know the boost controller isn't setup correctly as the graph shows boost levels of 15.5 psi which is higher than the 0.8 kg/cm it should have been. the main problem is though, the car is running extremely rich, is it as similar as getting the map adjusted on my scoobyecu or do i need to change the scoobyecu for a standalone unit. i only want to achieve around 300 - 320 bhp so i'm not that far away from my target. here's what clive atthowe wrote in the comments box on my invoice. "rich everywhere, full load 15% co. 0.7 lambda. hits knock at 6,000 rpm and goes into correction" i would appreciate some honest views as to my next move. as i would like to sort this out asap. thanks Rob |

Ok
0.80 Kg/cm = .78 bar = 11.3 psi 1.10 Kg/cm = 1.07 bar = 15.6 psi Can't you remove the fuel cut and is this on the standard ECU ? I'm pretty sure early cars use a lower pressure sensor and don't like higher boost pressures i.e. it gets saturated. Mark A |
The early classic map sensor can take up to 17.2psig which is around 4.9volts and saturates beyond this ;)

Del, Your a star!! :)
cheers rob |
I can only assume the fact that 440 injectors need specific mapping has been discovered.

sounds about right pavlo.on the button again we see.
|
Sounds like you were suffering from overheating of the charge, did they run the car with the bonnet up and all cables connected ?

The map sensor in my MY95 Saloon wouldn't allow over 1bar without the ECU throwing a CEL (Apexi PFC) and dropping the boost to 0.5bar. We had to change the map sensor to the one in the Apexi boost control kit and all was well.

bonnet was rested down for the run, i have concluded with del that the map isn't right. Pavlo also right, map has not been set for 440's and map sensor is standard.
