Will a 1412kb file downloaded off the net fit on a standard 1.38mb floppy disk ?
Aren't they pretty much the same ? I have to transfer a file from one pc to another thats 1412kb, the only format I have is a floppy transfer (long story) so will it fit ?

The total useable capacity of a 1.44Mb floppy disk is 1,423.5Kb (binary) or 1,457,664 bytes after overheads. So technically, yes.
Can you zip/rar the file to be sure ? |
Yeh I would think so.
Out of interest - can I get higher capacity floppy disks from PC world or suchlike ? |
IIRC IBM did 2.88Mb ones donkeys ago. Closest thing since has been ZIP drives or the L120 drives. You'd need a special drive to read those.
1.44Mb is the higest capacity std 3.5" floppy disk. As Dunk suggests, try compressing it onto one floppy or use something like WinZip to compress it over a couple if it doesn't fit. Stefan |
cheers chaps - much appreciated
