APS TMIC vs STi 4 TMIC

Looking into changing the intercooler as part of the plan to get 350/60 bhp. Does anybody know much about the APC TMIC? Is it better than a standard STi4 intercooler? or a sti 7 IC?

Will an STi 7 intercooler fit my STi4, direct fit or modding?

Thanks

I have an APS TMIC, it's far better than a sti4 intercooler. An STI7 one s probably better, definetly if you fit the splitter underneath and bigger scoop.

You will have to modify a bit though to fit one. It's not a direct swap.

Thanks Dave,

So going for an API TMIC with the splitter combo will be a lot more efficient than the sti4 IC? Just wondering if i will ever need a FMIC, im going for TD05 20G turbo with target of 350/60bhp.

LOL i thought the sti4 scoop was big enough, where can i get a bigger one?

I don't remember who makes the bigger scoop, sorry!

with full de-cat, standard headers 20G and APS tmic... plus various other things my car made about 340bhp @ 1.3bar (never rolling roaded). Charge temp was good until about 130mph in 4th when it reached 40degrees (12ish deg outside temp no splitter standard scoop). If you like high speeds i'd go a front mount though after a few mins between 100 and 130mph the temp picks up, below 100 it keeps nice and cool.

It's up to about 380bhp now still with the aps tmic, but i reckon that's the limiting factor. Bigger scoop, splitter and newage sti intercooler needed. For the cost and the hassle i'd go for the sti cooler straight off.

cool, thanks very much for your advice.

Dont like the idea of modding a newage STi, not sure how much work is involved? Would rather get something that will fit straight out of the box. Not too worried about top speeds, if i go over 100mph its only for a few seconds rather than minutes.

Not too much work. I've not done it myself though. I think you need the newage bracket on the driver side, and a bit of bending/swearing to make it fit.

Cheeper and better IMHO.

bigger scoop from D.R motorsport
£140 painted
i have gone for the hyperflow tmic
that includes the alloy Y piece underneath
the aps doesnt and its £170 odd quid for it
the hyperflow works out cheaper, try jw racing , , u may even get discount ;-)

And I believe they are both made by Hyperflow to different dimensions, Jamie can tell you if there is any decent difference!
