uppipe problem

hi, if the uppipe was leaking on my99 turbo would it affect boost? the car is currently boosting to 14psi with full de-cat.
when it is boosting it sounds as if the usual whistle from the turbo is stuttering.two different noises mixing? -turbo whistle and the blowing uppipe?
did notice that the heat shield what i could see past the turbo, had come apart and was open.could it just be the heat shield rattling?
not had a chance to have a look underneath yet always dark when i get in,any comments/help appreciated.
cheers

you will certainly notice a difference if there is a leak prior to the turbo, as some of the gases are simply wasted, hence not as much boost............

Hi, I still don't quite know about the previous thread. Anyway I had a leaking up pipe at one point and I found it was actually causing overboosting! my car is set at 20psi, i was up to 28 whilst on boost in 4th and 5th (needless to say this was a one off ;) ). This was cured straight away when the leak was fixed.

What about driving, is there any different feeling? Stuttering sounds very vague. can you be more specific about the problem?

You never did say which car you had, or if i was modified in any way. this could make a difference.

If anything you should find the problem worse from cold. When mine cracked it felt like a slipping clutch from cold (lots of revs no movement). When it got hot it was'nt bad at all. You won't see much evidence of a leak but you will be able to smell it!

I suppose this depends on severity, the only difference with mine was the it was louder (just a leaking joint)
