Sony Camcorder - american model, can it record in PAL ?

A mate has picked up a gorgeous little Sony handycam, model DCR-HC20, whilst in America

It plays both NTSC and PAL Mini DV tapes

So far it can only record in NTSC

Do you reckon a software patch could get it to record in PAL ?
