OE fuel regulator, why change?
 

Hi

A lot of people here uprate the fuel pump and regulator at the same time. But most keep the OE settings for fuel pressure at idle, and most uprated regs are 1:1, like OE

Is the OE reg a poor item (like the pump)

I have read alot of comments that the FSE is not that great anyway, and the SX is bloody expensive if you want to keep to OE settings.

So why do it?

The problem with the OE reg is that if you uprate the pump the pressure can overcome the reg and drop the fuel pressure over the injectors. The FSE is not as bad as the OE and i will admit the SX is much better build quality but VFM choice the FSE is hard to beat. Allows you to up the fuel pressure too to compensate for smaller injectors to a degree.

The oe reg is actually not as bad as it appears, certainly on new age cars mapped with factory ecu there is absolutely no need to change, the fuel pump controller eliminates any issues, on the GC8 the oem reg is certainly better than a FSE (imho and experience) however a SX is still an excellant replacement albeit expensive (as mentioned).

For my part I am now quite happy to map GC8's with the oem reg left in with uprated fuel pumps, there can be some advantages.

Would also like to know this as ive just purchased a walbro fuel pump for my sti4 and still debating wether i need an FSE.

I only changed the regulator so I could make the injectors appear to be bigger than they actually are. It's not ideal, but it gets around the problem for now.
