Pioneer 108 no longer writes at 16X

why would the drive start maxing out at 8X ..... Nero only allows upto *X now where it used to be 16. I haven't touched firmware or the setup of my machine  still seeing it as a Dual layer but no max write speed :(

The quality of the disc you are writing to?

RB5-Black 31 January 2005 12:38 PM

same Orange top bulkpaq's I've been using all the time.

I can open Nero ( without a disc in ) and it only shows me 8X max :(

Leg@cy 31 January 2005 03:13 PM

Is it a 'new batch of discs' ??

Hanslow 31 January 2005 03:19 PM

Have you tried rerunning NeroDriveSpeed (or whatever it is called) that calibrates your drives speed? Maybe it's got confused somewhere along the way and needs to recalculate the max?

RB5-Black 31 January 2005 03:52 PM

I'll try nerodrivespeed, not that it matters really , it still writes and I don't have any 16X media anywho

bob269 31 January 2005 04:24 PM

I've not seen anywhere that advertises anything more than 8x so think yourself lucky that it's worked for so long.

Most 8x's show as 12x on my 108 Pioneer.

Craig

Your Nero is at fault. It's a poor burning app at the best of times...i thought you'd know better ;)

There is 16x media available (since Noember 2004) but it's DVD+R and horrifically expensive at the moment (about 60p per disc  )

The DVD-R 16x counterpart is due for release Feb '05

The majority of 8x DVD-R, as bob said (CMC MAG/MCC/TTG02 etc), will write at 12x in a 108 on stock firmware.

Yes all X8 media shows as its burning at X12 on my Pioneer 108 so in terms of time it can burn a full DVD-R in 6 1/2 to 7 minutes pretty damn quick lol.
