DVD Writer speed query

Have just bought a new Samsung IDE DVD writer (16x) to replace my slightly ageing 4x NEC.

What didn't occur to me at the time was that I can't write at full speed with the new writer with the media I currently have- it keeps giving me faults, which I am guessing have to be due to the 4x disks I'm using.

Can you get 16x writable media or if not, can I slow down the writer through windows? I use DVD Xcopy and can't find an option to slow it down like you can in Nero.

Thanks,
Simon;)

http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/ - any use??

Haven't seen and x16 media; usually buy x8 from eBuyer. Don't think you can set the speed in Windows, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for that- will have a look through it when I get a min.

I usually buy media from ukdvdr.com- they have always been pretty 'economical' and reliable ;)

I have a Pioneer 108 which can burn + or - at X16 but there is NO X16 media. When i put my X8 disc's into Nero it says cannot burn at X16 but it does burn X8 disc's at X12 lol if this is any help !!!!

Yes, you can. We have been selling the 16x Datasafe DVD+R since November last year...but it's not cheap

If you don't want to pay official 16x media prices, we have found the Bulkpaq 8x (DVDINFO: CMC MAG E01) will burn at 16x on stock firmwares.

For all the difference there is betwen 12x and 16x burning (about 1min per disc), it's not really worth burning flat out. Your drive will not reach a 16x burn until about 3.5gb into the disc.
