VW PD Diesel Engines
When were the PD Diesel engines in VW's introduced?
I'm thinking of looking at a 1998S Passat which is a PD115 BHP. Didn't think they came out that early. |
They didnt, it was 2000/2001 for the PD units from memory. A 1998 1.9 TDi model will be 90bhp or 110bhp - still excellent engines tho, PD was only a slight reworking of these.

I thought they were introduced around 2000 in the Golf first .... the first models were 115bhp and they quickly introduced the 100 and 130 bhp variants.
I think 1998 is way too early for a Passat, if I remember right they didn't get PD engines til 2001. |
The Passat got the PD 115 engine ( TDi with Red 'D & I')first in mid 2000, anything before then will be 90hp (TDI all chrome badge) or 110hp ( TDI with Red 'I' only).

Golf PD 130 & 150 where early 2001, or might even be very late 2000. Mark |
According to Parker's it was 1999:
http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/sp...=1025&id=17855 As long as it's the 110BHP and not the 90BHP I'll be quite happy. (Jabba can squeeze far more out of the 110BP than the 90BHP :D ) |
Had a Golf PD150. Still the best car I have ever owned. :thumb:
They came with either all silver GTI or GTI with the red "I" or all red TDI |
