Phobile Moans - From life-savers to nannies.

THE DISTRESS call from the mobile phone of a couple stranded up a mountain in the Lake District sounded serious. “We are lost in the mist,” said an anxious voice. “My wife is very frightened. Please come and find us.” As the message continued, the mountain rescue team listened incredulously. “And could you send a helicopter?” asked the caller. “We have a dinner date at 7pm which we really don’t want to miss.”

It's all part of Tony's nanny state... You treat people like errant children and pretty soon they cannot take responsibility for themselves or their actions.

Having read that article I'm shocked and saddened at how irresponsible some people can be :( Did they really think a helicopter would come and get them? Not least of all because it was misty

I've been at the top of a Lakeland fell when the mist has descended and the footpath has disappeared, we used our map and compass to get back down, I wouldn't have dreamt of phoning mountain rescue for something so trivial!

When we go walking now we have a competition to spot the most Inappropriately Dressed Man/Woman/Child/Family. It shocks me how badly prepared some people are when they go out into the hills. Just the other week we followed an IDW (Inappropriately Dressed Woman) on a four mile walk around the Ingleton Waterfalls which consists of mainly rough, rocky, slippery wet paths - she was wearing high heeled boots and carrying a handbag and struggling just a bit

At least she looked fashionable tho' ;)

I was once at the top of Hellvelyn (sp?) in five metre visibility. Of the twelve or so other I came across up there, none had a map or a compass apart from me.

Seems about right for these muppets. Some folks seem to set out with not much of clue about wtf they are doing, when it will get dark or even how many miles an hour they can expect to cover.
