Our new video page

Have been looking for a way to host vids for a while and in the end Dave and I decided the easiest way was to create a web site and do it ourselves.

This is only the beginning of it, over the next few days we will be uploading tonnes of vids and pics from the Nurburgring and other track days. So keep an eye on it.

To start with their is only one vid and I will post a link to that in the gallery section if you cant find it on the site.

Stick it in your favourites and keep an eye on it. We have loads to add.

Big thanks to Dave and Clare for the work so far

Gary

From experience, you may find that the lack of direct effect on the webmaster is irrelevant, as any advertising oto external sites causes issues with those who are a) paying to advertise their services, and b) those who should be paying to advertise their services but won't because 'fan' sites are advertising themselves without paying.

I'm sure Simon/Shaun will clarify this issue in the guidelines at some point (if they haven't already)

Err Dissagree... that could be said about any external link...! and would mean EVERY link would be looked at in the same way... If the link isn't for commercial purposes, has commercial content, or is promoting something the how can this be a problem...
just a thought!

As I said, from experience....

I used to promote my 'fan' site (ie non-commercial, non-money-making-in-any-sense-of-the-word site) via a link in my signature. Set up an autokey, bottom of every thread or reply it would appear automatically.

The problems occurred when people advertising commercial websites on scoobynet via the use of signature links complained that they should not be levied with a charge for advertising when I was allowed to advertise my site free of charge.

Quite reasonably, to stop the arguments, I was asked to no longer advertise my site. I have no problem with doing that, after all, scoobynet is a commercial venture and needs to retain it ability to effectively charge for advertising.

My point is that it should one rule for all, if thats the way the webmaster wants to run the site. Therefore, I would see anyone putting a link to an external website that they own/run is breaking the rules. On the hand, it would be difficult to stop third parties advertising a site.

I would hope that as we are only showing where to go to find the vids that we show in gallery that there wont be a problem. Whatever anyway we will of course respect the wishes of webby..It wont stop us from posting links in gallery though, just makes it easier for us to host them.... nothing commercial involved

I thought the whole point of forums was to spread things like this?

I have forwarded this site on to a few peeps, it looks interesting!

Bookmarked

Gutmann pug 26 January 2005 02:25 PM

Cheers guys its nice to get good feedback.

If the vid fails at the moment its because we have shown the site on a few forums today, so the usage at the moment is very high. It will calm down later on for sure.

supertouring 26 January 2005 08:24 PM

I thought videoing was a no-no at the ring, or is it only if you get caught?

Gutmann pug 26 January 2005 08:38 PM

these were prior to the ban .........

They all seem to say that ;)

Seriously, do they check and get people to remove them or is it not strictly enforced? Not that I am doubting your above statement.

Scratch 26 January 2005 09:26 PM

Would be nice if there were an indication of file size for any of the videos. Even though I'm now on broadband it's nice to know how big the file is so as to judge whether to bother or how long it may take.

Good thinking. See what we can do

Supertouring, yes they keep an eye on you and yes they chuck you off if they catch you.

Gary
