MP3 Player problems...HEEEELP

My father in law received a 'free' mp3 player - I cant even remember the make, I'd never heard of it. It has 128MB memory.

I put a couple of mp3 songs on for him which seemed easy enough. The device showed as a mass storage device and I just moved the files over which worked well. :)

He is keen to put on a couple of his albums on so I thought 'no problem' and copied them to his pc. Now I appreciate that windows converts copied music to WMA files which this player wouldn't play so I downloaded a converter and turned them into MP3's and put them on the player.

The odd thing is though that while the original mp3's I put on work perfectly the converted files when played only play the music and the vocals are almost completely inaudible..:( (The mp3's play perfectly on Windows Media player)

I have never used an MP3 player before so please help I'm losing credibility :D

Thanks in advance

If you converted wma to mp3 that would have caused more loss or it could be that you are converting at the wrong bit rate. I have a small mp3 player that will not play files with an odd bit rate.

What software are you using for this? Copy the CD over to your HD, then use your conversion software, such as cdex, to convert to MP3.

Start with the original CD again, but convert straight to mp3@128Kbps and 16 bit, 44.1KHz.

Windows Media player 10 can convert to mp3 as well as WMA now ;)

Maybe he has an old version then.... but seeing as he has already installed a different program he might as well continue to use it :)

Thanks very much for the replies! :D :D

Solved the problem with CDex.....and downloaded Windows Media Player 10 as well.

It now works perfectly.....wouldn't mind an MP3 player myself. :)

Thanks again

Glad you're working ok. MP3 players are great... I have one for my hand bag and one in the car :D
