Subaru Alarm Tone

Hi all,,
Can anybody tell me if the alarm tone for my 2002 bugeye can be changed,
It is the cat1 subaru alarm which has an annoying beep and 20 second immoberliser, which i find embaressing at petrol stations.

Has anybody else noticed this about the factory alarm????

i have an my03 sti and it was turned off as standard. you can turn it on though. so should be able to turn it off. do you have a keypad where the coin slot used to be on the right hand side of the steering wheel. i will have to get the code out of the car. hope this helps.

YES I HAVE A KEY PAD, BUT LOOKING AT THE MANUAL, IT SAYS THIS FEATURE IS TURNED ON AT INSTALLATION BUT CAN BE TURNED OFF BY YOUR SUBARU DEALER!

The beep is supposed to be turned off for it to meet Cat1 standard.

Sigma Sam 26 January 2005 10:40 AM

The Sigma M30 alarm systems are manufactured with the arm/disarm tone turned off to comply with 95/56 (security) European standards.
Turning the bleep on is possible using the keypad, but will then breach 95/56 EC legislation if the vehicle was manufactured (and the security system installed) since this legislation came into force (around 1996).
I do not know if any action is likely to be taken against someone if they turn the tones on, but who knows - I hear someone has been prosecuted this week for eating an apple!!
Although the arm/disarm indication tones can be turned on or off using the keypad, as the keypad is used to program all the systems features, times and settings, we recommend that this performed by a dealer, that is familiar with using the keypad, to prevent mis-programming or inadvertently changing your existing settings.
