typing problems......

whilst i'm typing this message, i'm merrily typing away, and then i look up, only to see that the cursor has stopped, and what i've typed hasn't appeared. keeps happening, and sometimes the backspace key makes the page go back one.
Any ideas??
Happens on other sites too, done it 10 times just typing this message!!!

Ron.

Are you on a laptop and you're touching the mouse pad and moving the focus out of the window?

RON 22 January 2005 12:38 AM

Nope, full size regular pc, strange thing is, that several people are having exactly the same issues on another site, people fro far and wide, very odd...

thanks for trying!!

sounds like the PC is busy doing something else...I fix a lot of home PC's and the build up oif spyware, adware, trojans etc means all these things are sending data to somewhere and it can really slow a machine down - intermittent pausing being one of the symptoms....

boot up to safe mode with networking and try it - if the symptoms still persist it's something else...if they are gone, however, it's more than likely something using your CPU/memory.

Does the text eventually come up or does it just stop and not enter anything till it "unfreezes". Is it only in one app or in any program?

Backspace DOES take you back a page if you are not highlighted on a text box....otherwise it should just work as a delete as normal where you have typed....

Might be a good thing to post up a screenshot of your processes from the windows task manager Ron.

I suspect you have got some nasties running without your knowledge. Tell you what... I can fix your PC whilst your doing my belts :D

Hi Ron
Sounds a bit like wot pmac says..as you are typing and this happens..are you still in the active window.
ie. is the top title bar still blue or has it gone grey (windows default colour scheme)

RON 23 January 2005 08:41 PM

it's just plain wierd, it only happens on the net, but not on outlook, or messenger!! it's almost like some kind of spell checker. the bar that appears at the bottom has the start of what i'm trying to type... but I can't find a spell checker on Firefox?????

Soulgirl 23 January 2005 10:14 PM

The bar at the bottom ron is the 'find' function. This is brought up by hitting Ctrl and F. Perhaps you hit the Ctrl button by mistake when you try to type a capital F ?

RON 23 January 2005 10:29 PM

Karen, you are a pc goddess!! how do/can i disable it???

Soulgirl 23 January 2005 10:31 PM

There is a little cross to the left of the word Find: Click it :D Don't think you can disable it - just type more carfully :D

RON 23 January 2005 10:35 PM

Is there a list somewhere of all the damn shortcuts, cos sometimes i press a key, (maybe and ctrl) and the screen goes 'back' to the previous page, and then I have to start all over again!!!

Thanks SG!!

Soulgirl 23 January 2005 10:40 PM

It works the same as for any other windows application really.

RON 23 January 2005 10:46 PM

Looks like i'll have to be a bit clevererererer then eh!!!!!

Soulgirl 23 January 2005 10:49 PM

You're clever enough Ron - typing doesn't make you clever - after all, I type! I rest my case :D

Foot_Tapper 24 January 2005 11:10 AM

keyboard interface error then ;)

Soulgirl 24 January 2005 03:00 PM

Bwahaaa :D

RON 25 January 2005 09:35 PM

it's happening again.... time for a new keyboard me thinks!!!!

Soulgirl 25 January 2005 11:10 PM

Ah haaaa... like the one I emailed you Ron? :D

RON 26 January 2005 12:21 AM
