Just decatted my MY04STI, system runs fine as it is, but I feel it would def benefit from a remap. Some smootheness in power delivery has been lost but it spools up quicker and doesnt tails off as quick either. a remap would be the way to go. Currently about £799 I believe from various ecu tek dealers.

H&S supplied a cell fix for mine which stops the cel light coming on. U may not need this due to ur model, but check it out.

you cant ecutek a 96, also, a 96 wont get a CEL for decat.

you could just fit the exhaust and look at whats happening with the knock link and lambdalink you have already.
depending on how much octane booster you use at the moment, you could always go for a stronger mix if there is increased det.
There may be (or has at least been documented in the past) a little issue of boost creep but you could keep that in check with a manual boost controller such as a dawesdevice which would also give you amazingly quick spool up and maximum boost pressure in every gear.
Im quite sure there are literally hundreds of others out there that have decatted but havent paid any attention to remapping, I know I did (albeit on a UK car).

IMHO, if you are going to get remapped, get a bigger turbo/intercooler/injectors/fuel pump/regulator and make it worthwhile ;)
