How good are the Crawford engines??

I'm considering upgrading the engine in my STI V5, i'm looking at the crawford CDB either the 2.2 or 2.4. Has anybody had any experiences with these engines and how would you rate the power graph with the 2.4??

Is it a straight forward swap with my sti engine, what other parts would you recommend upgrading??

Using standard turbo what sort of power could I expect??

NB: I don't have a crawford engine.

I haven't heard anything bad about them. They seemed to be discussed evenly and reasonably by those in the know.

It's worth doing a search, especially in the projects section to get a feel for what needs upgrading.

TBH you're looking at changing most bits to make the most out of a bigger and hopefully stronger engine, including turbo, injectors, fuel pump and regulator, remap or new ECU, headers, downpipe/decat, exhaust, induction. I/c is also probably on the list.

Pick a number of BHP figures (say 320, 350, 380bhp) and research what needs changing to make the numbers. Also depends if you're looking to fill in the bottom end of the torque/power and improve driveability or whether you want a racing car.

what numbers are you aiming for because personally having had 550bhp, I am changing down to 450 witha smaller turbo to get a car which is faster on the road.

This is all well and good having spent the money on a 550bhp safe engine, but had I known this was my power goal I would have bought an ej257 for about £1300 and spent far less money to get it to 450bhp safely.

If I had my time again, that is what I would do.

Adam, where do you suggest getting an ej257 from for that sort of money?
I intend to go for 360/320 everyday from my 2.0 and in the meantime build a 257 to drop straight in, seen the old GB thread but thought they were more pricey than that to pick up here?

Mauromotorsport in New york price for ej257s are alright. £958 not including taxes and delivery.

Delivery was $200 to your door iirc.

They will do a group buy aswell $100 off for 5
$200 off for 10

Andy, that was my plan, until running at 360/320 +/- everyday for roughly 40000 hard driven miles said enough is enough, and snapped a rod. That brought the finishing of the project forward very quickly.
