Why does a 10 year passport last 9 1/2 years?

They always say you must have at least 6 months left before you can travel ......whats that all about ....is it a ten year or 9 1/2 year ticket?

Surely as long as there is enough time on it for you to complete your trip your ok?

Takes the passport office 6 months to process your new one? ;):D

The Brits say it's 10 years. Other countries may specify "spare" time of 1, 3, six months. It's up to each country to set the conditions that allow you into it.

Oh eck , I go to Tenerife in two weeks and my passport runs out in August this year , will i be O.K. ?

Brendan Hughes 19 January 2005 02:19 PM

Probably. The "remainder" period usually only applies to countries that need a visa or at least stamp your passport. Isn't Tenerife Spanish? I'd think (but don't know) they don't touch it.
