Found Milan boring. erm. Hit the shops? drive to Tuscany and stay there instead.

InvisibleMan 17 January 2005 04:59 PM

architecture, art museums, shopping

WRX-Mark 17 January 2005 05:03 PM

cathedral and parks worth a visit. So good shops, and nice bars.

lightning101 17 January 2005 05:08 PM

The city centre is very expensive and is called Duomo, the city square is lined with cafes on one side and duomo cathedral on another.

You are about 4.50 - £5 for a coffee in these cafes. Just outside the main square you have D&G, Versace etc and one of the worlds dearest Mcdonalds, there are also irish bars, further out things get much cheaper, and if you are happy with pizzas beer and ice cream you won't pat through the nose.

Remembering Milan is far more industrial than other tourist places, some of the outlying parts have beggars and slum areas and should be avoided at night.

There is a good underground system, to get beween one place and another, and there are two airports, linate being the easiest to get anywhere from.

I will check through my photos to get the names of some of the main sites to see.

Monza's not far away :D

I loved Milan (stayed in the city centre for a week on a course about 5 years ago).

- worth going up the cathedral (La Duomo)
- ice cream everywhere, mmmm
- the tailors shops are terrific, I got loads of ties and shirts at sensible money (the shops at first look a little intimidating as there's litte on display but the staff are there to help you)
- some great restaurants and bars

Have fun!
Gordo

Just go and laugh at the crazy driving and parking LOL

Some good (and not bad priced) food and wine can be easily found

I went to watch Inter play football while I was there working - quite entertaining :D

I was out there with work for about a week, 4 years ago. Was only going to be there 2 days but the Italian telecom provider cocked up so I had to stay.:)

Went to see AC Milan play and had lots of aggro when i went to buy a ticket from the kiosk. All the touts surrounded me and a friend and insisted we buy their tickets....This went as far as blocking me from getting to the ticket kiosk. The AC Milan staff did nothing and the police were not interested.
Bit imtimdiating to say the least....

Still, managed to buy a ticket from the kiosk and paid

£9 yes NINE for a great seat. City was nice too.
Don't think you will have a hard time getting a ticket, with the amount of touts I saw, but don't think you will pay £9. Enjoy it and lets hope they turn em over...

My mate knew a few of the players so got tickets. I think you can usually turn up and pay at the san siro - but worth checking. The ground is huge !!

Went there last year on my euro tour in the scoob. Drove into the city centre. Nearly had the exhaust rattled off over the cobble stones. Got fed up with the local drivers, couldnt find me way out. Gave up and drove into france pretty damed quick.

I found Milan the DIRTIEST and most DISGUSTING place I have had the misfortune to visit, I was supposed to work there for 3 months but left after a couple of days.

Every bit of brick work in the city has some kind of grafitti on it.

George W Bush 19 January 2005 12:16 PM

Funny i was there for 3 days and hated it too

goonasuk 19 January 2005 02:48 PM

I would not go back there either..

Its jsut sh*t, was expecting all this nice stuff etc but its worse than London for mess.

OllyK 19 January 2005 03:41 PM

I preferred Sienna. Florence is nice too but a long way to go.

agree, I was there playing football and thought it was a sh1thole of the highest order, would never go back.
The place is more dreary than big John Dreary from Drearysville.
Everything was black, black, black

I spent a day in Milan and was also very disappointed  I think it must have been a national holiday or something when I went because no where was open.

I found it to be quite a dump also, to much graffiti and litter every were

Because every where was shut we decided to go on a walk about to find the san siro not realising it was no where near the centre.

Didn’t even see one sign post for it, after walking about for 5 hours we have up and caught the train back to Modenna.

I later found out easiest way to get to get to it is by taxi, just tell the driver where you want to go and try to work out a price (if I recall correctly it may have been someone on here who told me about that).

If I was you id jump on the train and go to Rome or Florence for the day.

carl 28 January 2005 11:22 PM

What a dump!

lightning101 28 January 2005 11:37 PM

Good point well made, your in depth review of the highlights of the city at night were a joy to behold, and at your bequest I have taken the liberty of sending a copy to the Milan Tourism Centre ;)

Manda_po 28 January 2005 11:50 PM

It is rubbish. I went there a few years ago for a long weekend, and couldn't believe how sh1t it was. Very, very dissapointing. A good job it was a freebie.

paulr 30 January 2005 12:47 PM

okay,mixed views.
cheers.
