very nice and welcome to the SN 205 track car club
|
Very nice - tasty little motor - makes superb track car.
|
looks clean mate ... loose the petrol cap thing though.
|
Cheers guys....don't worry, the boy racer bits and sounds will be departing very shortly. Gonna get an Mi16 engine with carbs (well, thats the plan anyway!) :D
|
Hope you got £4K burning a hole in ya pocket for a good rebuild and fitted unit .........Good luck to you. I will stick with my old 8 valve clutter
|
Gonna do all the work myself so hoping it's not gonna come to that kind of price tag lol
The carbs idea might not go ahead, will stick the Mi in it and take it from there...my mates got one with an S16 with throttle bodies in it and it's a bit of a beast....he's spent a fair bit on that! The full car is honestly like new! (probably cos most of it is!) Dare say when i strip it out inside (sounds, rear seats, etc) it should be a bit faster with the current engine in it. It's the 1.9 with a pipercross induction kit, full (loud!) s/s magnex, falkland uprated ecu and power boost valve at the moment |
The Mi guys wont be far from this thread but for my two penith ive always had good results from my old girl in 8 valve form.
|
Looks very good car for nearly 15/16 years old, infact too good to track although 205 1.9 is best track option IMO......MI16 deep pocket business
|
It is a 1.9 ????
|
I was agreeing with his choice mate. Saying it was too nice to track although the choice you made was the best
|
Cheers Falkster, It does look good, yes and is in excellent condition but i got it for a good price so i feel it'll do nicely for the track...still gonna use it as a road car now and again so should be ideal!
Gutmann - yep, it's a 1.9...did the front seats fool ya? ;) In the first pic you can just about see the side badge and glint of rear disks :) |
i did this conv on a volcano citreon zx was a 1.6 changed to mi16 i thought it was a simple job there was only about 5 wires that are diff started it friday morning was at notts sunday night.
|
......was going to do it again this year into 106 but just got my hands on a 2.0l turbo out of a citreon xm so it should pull well and upset a few people:idea:
|
welcome to the 205 track car club
Leave the ICE in the back..well help with weight distribution..LOL Sean http://www.mckeown-enterprises.co.uk...pt04/rear3.jpg |
RB5 .how did you go about fitting the placcy windows in the rear quarters? did you use rubbers from a non opening rear window car or what?
|
It depends on which windows you get, as you can get them in 2 sizes. I got the GTI sized ones first and bolted them in, but look crap really. So i'm cutting them down to the normal 205 size and using the rubbers to fit. I'm in the middle of that job so I have 1 of each fitted at the moment. The rubber method look much better and is less prone to leak

rb5 336 - sweet car mate!!
All going well that should be close the finishing result of mine :) |
Had two of those in my driving history. Never forget the fun I had in them!

Welcome to the club, i'm in the middle of rebuilding my Mi16 at the minute, complete with Emerald ECu and Suzuki GSXR throttle bodies - hoping for 180bhp when done, though Gary will still beat me with his 8v :D |
I went the Mi16 route with mine, cost me a fortune as the first guy that had a go didn't really know what he was doing and left it in a right mess.
I have to agree with GP to be honest, although the Mi16 is now blindingly quick it struggles like hell to put the power down now I've done the cams. I could really do with an LSD but I've already spent about three times what its worth and can't bring myself to spend any more. |
I guess it all comes down to what you want and how much you want to spend. The 205 in 8 valve form is a pretty competant car and for anything from £1000 you can have a track prepared version. The Mi will without doubt be a track monster ( so they say :D) but the budget goes up a fair amount. When you start thinking about £4-£5K including full rebuild etc your into cheap westfield / 172 territory and it makes you think twice.
Mine owes me a few quid but if I stack it then hey ho such is life. Thats why I stay cheap. For instance another newbie asked me about brakes the other day. He had been quoted £1200 for a brake upgrade. Thats nearly twice what he payed for the car. In my mind there is no way that can be justified. Stick some decent pads on and save £1,150. Your a second off the pace but who cares, your still enjoying it. Gary |

Gary It does take a little time for them to warm up, and I think the compound *may* be a little too hard, but to be honest they're excellent and all for under about a hundred quid. |
I agree on the brakes - I got some ATE discs and Ferodo pads for £80 and they are superb. :)
Like you say Gary, all depends how far you want to go. You have a Scoob to run as well, whereas my 205 is my only car. Its cost me £3600 so far, and will be near to £5k when done, but I love it so to me its worth it, and its my hobby after all. |
We ran Ferodo pads on our last outing at Outlon with intermedite cut slick things. You could brake as hard as you wanted every time without any brake fade. The difference between our last set of pads and this one is staggering.
|
DS2500 pads are ace .......... done two ring trips, plus UK tracks this year and as has been said, NO FADE ........its what you want and what you need.
Mintex are also very good |
my vote goes to mintex 1155s, I'll never be changing
|
Beware guys....now i know you have all this useful info you're PM box may be getting rather full lol ;)
Karl - we'll see ;) :D nice car btw |
